Overview

The Volksmilitär is the armed forces of the Eusan Nation, and responsible for waging war against the Eusan Empire and upstart Vinetan states. They primarily handle all offensive operations and temporary garrisons. If a permanent garrison is required, this duty is normally handled by the Protektoriate.

The Volksmilitär is divided into the Volksarmee (People's Army) and the Volksmarine (People's Navy), both of which operate their own Volksflieger (People's Airmen). Volksflieger within the Army are more likely to be the pilots or maintainers of dual-purpose or atmospheric craft, and Volksflieger within the Navy are more likely to be the pilots, gunners, or technicians for large spacefaring vessels, strike craft, and waterborne vessels.

Hierarchy

Within the Volksmilitär, rank is a marker of your merit, command competence, experience, and to some degree, your station. Station is, however, the chief marker of authority: the Kommandant for a ship might be the Kapitan, or perhaps the Kommandant of that duty station is a Senior NCO appointed by the de facto Kapitan of that vessel or the Militärbezirkes (Regional Command).

Duty station is always more important than one's rank. A unicorn Kommandant Soldat would have command authority over a Volksmarine Kapitanleutnant if that Offizier was assigned to the duty station of the Kommandant Soldat. This is often a source of tension on duty stations.

The Nationaler Sicherheits-Dienst uses the Army ranks, though their ranks tend to be more like status symbols. This means that higher ranks tend to be more common therein.
