The desolate ruins of the once great city of Ansburg. Since the fall of the Kingdom, it has become a great nexus for the power of the encroaching Shadowfell, having been the site of a great slaughter during the crusades against the Vampire Princes.

Since then it has become a demi palne of the Shadowfell ruled over by Elowen - The White Lady. Souls of particularly dark and evil mortals end up in the this realm, growing the power of Elowen - The White Lady.

History and Founding:

Ansburg, an ancient city nestled in the middle of the great River Velayna, once stood as the jewel of the northern realms. Strategically positioned between the kingdom's capital and the sea, Ansburg was a beacon of prosperity and a vital trading hub. Merchants from across the known world brought their goods to its bustling markets, and the city's bridges provided the only safe crossing into the hostile lands of Noctis, ruled by the vampiric lords.

The Crusade for the Dawn:

In its zenith, Ansburg played a pivotal role during the Crusade for the Dawn. The kingdom's armies, having vanquished the vampire forces of Noctis, marched triumphantly through Ansburg. However, their victory was overshadowed by a grim discovery: the city had been infiltrated by cabals of vampire worshippers, their loyalty to the dark lords unwavering despite their defeat.

The Purge:

The kingdom's priests, fearing the spread of vampiric corruption, declared a purge. The decision was made to put the population to the sword, an act believed necessary to cleanse Ansburg of the vampire taint forever. This merciless massacre left the streets running red with blood, staining the city's history with an indelible mark of horror.

The Dragon's Despair:

The Protector of the kingdom, an ancient golden dragon named Auraxion, witnessed the carnage. The sight of such cruelty and betrayal scarred him deeply, causing his very soul to split. This fracture turned Auraxion into a shadow dragon, his golden scales darkening as his spirit succumbed to despair and darkness. The transformation of Auraxion heralded a catastrophic shift; his fall into shadow triggered the gradual swallowing of much of the kingdom, including Ansburg, by the Shadowfell.

The Curse of Ansburg:

Now, 500 years later, Ansburg is a cursed city trapped in perpetual twilight. Its ghostly inhabitants are doomed to relive the horrific slaughter of their final days over and over again, a ceaseless loop of anguish and despair. The air is thick with the echoes of screams and the specters of the slain, their torment drawing malevolent spirits to the city, each seeking to feed on the potent sorrow and agony that permeates the ruins.

Elowen's Claim:

In recent times, a dark elven shadow witch named Elowen has laid claim to Ansburg. Drawn by the city's dark power, she seeks to harness its latent energy for her own sinister purposes. Elowen, a master of shadow magic, has begun to weave her influence throughout the city, manipulating its spectral denizens and tapping into the raw power of the Shadowfell that now suffuses every stone and shadow.

Present Day:

Ansburg stands as a testament to the kingdom's past glories and tragic downfall. Its once-grand structures are now decayed and covered in a pall of darkness, with twisted spires and crumbling walls casting long, eerie shadows. The river Velayna, once a lifeline of commerce, flows dark and sluggish around the cursed city, its waters tainted by the sorrows of the dead.

Adventurers and scholars who venture into Ansburg are met with both wonder and terror. The city's treasures, long abandoned, lie hidden amidst the ruins, but so too do its dangers. Ghostly apparitions, driven mad by centuries of torment, wander the streets, while Elowen's dark magic poses a constant threat. Yet, amidst the shadows, whispers speak of a way to redeem the city and perhaps even restore the fallen dragon Auraxion, hinting at secrets buried deep within the cursed heart of Ansburg.

Thus, Ansburg endures, a city of shadows and sorrow, where the past refuses to die and the future is shrouded in darkness.
