An infamous organized crime syndicate, the Nemesis is a criminal organization with its roots firmly planted in the underbelly of Eqos and even some other continents. Created a few centuries ago, Nemesis agents, assassins, and thieves are found anywhere you look hard enough on the continent. The true ingenious nature of the organization is how few actually know of it, since they operate as suppliers for local distinct thieves guilds and gangs, leaving the authorities none the wiser that all these groups are further connected to a larger organization. Even if a criminal group isn't tied to the Nemesis, individual members more than likely are.
It isn’t known where the true headquarters of the Nemesis actually is, or if there even is one. The insidious mob has its hooks in every city, and any of the major crime hubs such as Kasaaq or Jamre could be the centerpoint. Many notable political figures, nobles, and faction leaders are secretly members of the Nemesis, or at least fund them for their own goals and ambitions. Some only contact them to hire the occasional assassin, while others may be truly devoted to the cause.
The richest and most powerful members of the Nemesis know that they do indeed have a cause beyond material wealth- it is actually an anarchist organization, who want to see the downfall of all the current political structures of Eqos. Many suspect that the Nemesis was responsible for the current warlike climate of the continent, and that they are actively making the situation worse through the shadows.
For the most part, the goals of the Nemesis are the same as any mob or thieves guild: The acquiring of money and riches distributed amidst its members. The Nemesis maintains their secrecy and strength by dividing themselves into multiple different smaller thieves guilds across Eqos, all unknowingly or willingly linked to a greater whole.
Their true anarchist ideals are pushed by key assassinations and the furthering of turmoil and destruction across Eqos. They work with key nobles and politicians to create unrest and push their agendas, and are actively trying to cause more wars to degrade the existing political structure of Eqos. Some think that these anarchist ideals are linked to the god of conquest and anarchy, Aesin the Revived.
The founder and true leader of the Nemesis is referred to as the ‘Countdown’ even by the other higher ups. Truly nothing is known about them, other than the fact that they might be immortal or especially long-lived. Countdown communicates to the other members of Nemesis via telepathy and letters, and only a few have claimed to have met them.
