Biography

Early Life

Declann is one of the Branchkeepers of Jørðaskr. He takes pride in his work as a protector of the World Tree. He understands how much it matters to the people of this land and the well-being of the land itself. Perhaps the only thing that took precedence for him over the tree was his younger brother. Declann would try his best to cure his brother's ailment, but received no help from the order he spent years working for. High level magic not accessible to the average person, the Eitr of the World Tree locked behind the walls of the Gronhalla, healthcare support stuck behind a slow bureaucratic machine. All this would leave him with a bitter taste in his mouth.

Then one day while on a mission to retrieve a shipment of raw sap stolen from the world tree, Declann ends up in a scuffle with the people who were behind the heist. A few blows are exchanged before a hasty fireball is thrown into the room by one of the panicking criminals. Multiple barrels of sap are destroyed and spilt as the people involved in this fight lay wounded on the ground. Declann finds himself covered in sap, unconscious, but not for long as the sap enters his bloodstream through his wounds and heals him. He wakes up with the ability to mutate his wild shape. This makes him hopeful, maybe the raw sap was capable of healing his brother and some more. However, the branchkeepers are not as enthusiastic when they find out about his peculiar situation, they immediately shut down any further inquiry into the matter, this mutation was akin to blasphemy for them.

They cleared Declann of any wrongdoings but also dissuaded him from trying to experiment with these abilities. This was the final straw for him, as when confronted with the knowledge of something that could be used for good, the order of the Branchkeepers had looked away, stuck in their old ways too afraid to change. For him they were a rot, a bureaucratic rot eating away at the World Tree from the inside, preventing it's power from reaching the people, almost a mirror to what was happening with his brother.

While he grew to detest this system, Declann still considered himself a true branchkeeper, he just thought there is a better way forward than the one shown by the order. He figured out how to steal small quantities of raw sap and starts conducting (ethical) experiments on smaller creatures to try and recreate what happened with him.

Cloud Maiden's Blight

Check the main campaign page for the detailed plot summary.

In the start of spring 3E230, this 'weird' Sevjene known as Silversap suddenly abandoned their handler Rava and ran off away from the tree. Declann had worked with typical sevjene saps before occasionally, though he'd never been the handler of one full-time. Hearing about this rogue sap, Declann took on the task to track them down of his own volition, maybe because this would be a way for him to research more into the sap, or maybe because they find a kindred spirit rebelling against the Branchkeepers.
