Make Safe the Adriel Way

In an effort to settle the Grimmark, Eric Figwort the Town Reeve offers a bountiful reward to any who can make safe the Adriel Way through the Hauntmoor. As a first step, a creature who haunts the moor (slithering, leaving trails of black grease, must be slain. As reward for this beginning action, he offers 1,500 gp, a fine wagon, and two draft horses from his personal stable.

Retrieve the Crystal Monocle

Retrieve the crystal monocle that once belonged to the ancient gnome Father Mudfoot, who is said to be buried in a temple in the Hauntmoor. In exchange, the Five Fingers of Fate will admit one into their order and give them the choice of one magical item from their stores.

Session Events

  • Near the end of the day, found a tomb guarded by goblins, then ran into some—the ones from the night before!

  • Made a deal with the goblins, trading a Breastplate of Frost for a secret: a way into Faërie—”Follow a map where the cardinal directions are labeled Then, Dreamward, Then, and Songward.”

  • Agreed to help the Goblins open the tomb in exchange for half the treasure.

  • Inside, Shevatas got trapped under falling debris trying to collect some treasure—treasure that was liberated after Shevatas was saved. (666 gp)

  • Rediscovered that the party processed a box of 19 Holy Wafers.

  • Found a room with a sarcophagus surrounded by four statues (three of which looked rather suspicious).

  • Hardwin charmed Mold the goblin and asked that they open the sarcophagus, which they did and promptly died, getting chopped into pieces by the “statues”.

  • Maverick removed the statue’s swords and tried again; they came to life and tried to clobber him, but not before he recovered the jade inside (500 gp).

  • The party locked the statues inside and continued to explore the tomb.

  • In another chamber, Shevatas opened another sarcophagus, this one trapped with poison gas, which rendered him unconscious—this was when the statues broke free.

  • Lucian alerted the party and everyone ran for the exit, except for Hardwin who turned invisible and returned for the contents of the last sarcophagus—a scroll (unidentified).

  • Hearing Hardwin still inside, Maverick stayed behind and was crushed by falling rocks, so was Hardwin in his attempt to escape, and so were the remaining statues (1,275 xp).

  • Lucian lead some retainers back to try to rescue them—both were recovered, but Maverick was already dying.

  • With his last words, he said: “Tell Hardwin it was his fault. Tell Eggmar the company was OURS, not HIS.”

  • The goblins declared the party friends and set off.

  • The party built a funeral pyre and burned Mavericks body in the old ways.

  • In the morning, they continued north, finding the ruins of the town of Brandonsford.

  • Hardwin, still invisible, scouted ahead, discovering strange magic covering the cemetery.
