The history of the Luminary is marked by periods of great power, conflict, and eventual isolation. They were among the first to understand and harness the power of The Breath.

The Luminary are a magical people of otherworldly grace, known for their exceptionally long lifespans which far outpace those of other races. Highly adaptable, they tend to change themselves to suit their environment rather than altering their surroundings. Their origins are a subject of mystery and scholarly debate, with theories suggesting they emerged from the Realm of Dreams, came from a realm called Alfheim, or were placed on Ignisar by a greater force.

The Luminary do not reproduce through conventional means. Instead, they are born directly from The Breath and nature itself. Each Luminary comes into being through unique phenomena tied to their environment and the magical forces that define them.

Some Luminary are born, arriving as infants to experience growth, while others step into life in full form. They are categorized as either "Nascent" or "Awakened".

Nascent Luminary

Gold Luminary manifest at sunrise, their scales and aura radiating with the first light of day. They are said to be born from the contemplations of celestial beings, appearing when the gaze of these watchers lingers upon the world. Gold Luminary often possess a strong sense of purpose, guiding them toward leadership or acts of heroic significance.

Silver Luminary emerge at twilight, stepping forth from the fleeting union of day and night. Often reflective and contemplative, they carry a calm wisdom and a subtle aura of authority. Both Gold and Silver Luminary are collectively known as High Luminary, akin to traditional "High Elves," though the Luminary themselves consider that term offensive.

Green Luminary are tied to forests and living groves, born among ancient trees or woven from roots and vines. Their first breaths echo with the pulse of the land itself, and they are guardians of sacred groves and natural balance. These Luminary are deeply connected to flora, animals, and elemental magic tied to the growth and fertility of the earth.

Blue Luminary originate from the depths of the ocean, emerging from magical pearls formed over centuries beneath the waves. Some are said to reincarnate lost sailors, reborn without memory but with an innate pull toward the sea. They often live in coastal settlements or travel aboard seafaring vessels, blending their social nature with a love of water and exploration.

Depths Luminary form deep underground, where bioluminescent fungi and arcane energies intermingle. Emerging from glowing pods, their skin radiates with residual luminescence. These Luminary are attuned to subterranean ecosystems and rare minerals, often serving as protectors of hidden realms or mystical caverns.

Awakened Luminary

Dream Luminary are not born, but come into existence fully grown. When someone dreams deeply, whether lost in memory, longing, or wonder The Breath may shape those emotions into existence. A Dream Luminary does not emerge from the world itself but instead from the mind of another. Their first moments are often met with joy, wonder, confusion, or even sorrow, as the dreamer might realizes they have unknowingly brought forth a new life. They have a strong connection to the four seasons and the elements. While a Dreams Luminary is their own being, they often carry faint traces of the dreamer’s emotions, memories, or desires. Some feel a deep bond with their dreamer, while others forge their own path, drawn to the greater mysteries of the world.

Nightmare Luminary are spectral beings caught between the living world and the afterlife, born from the deepest fears and regrets of those who cannot let go. They manifest in two ways, either as the physical embodiment of a dreamer’s most horrific nightmares, warping reality around their terror, or as souls trapped on the threshold of the afterlife, unable to move on due to their unresolved fears. Shrouded in sorrow and mystery, these Luminary drift through the Nightmare, their very presence a chilling reminder of the darkness that lies within the subconscious.

Star Luminary are the rarest of their kind. It is said that every star in the sky is a remnant of a world where events unfolded very differently, with civilizations and stories that no longer remain. When these worlds cease to exist, their essence drifts through the Astral Sea, becoming part of The Void. Over time, this essence breaks apart like meteors and shooting stars, eventually reshaping into a Star Luminary.

They are as keepers of the forgotten worlds. They possess a deep, melancholic connection to the past, knowing the history of countless worlds that no longer exist. They are both witnesses and protectors of these lost realities, carrying within them the legacy of what was. The arrival of a Star Luminary is often seen as a sign of great change, an omen that marks pivotal moments in time, those that may shift the course of history.

Historic Importance & Perspectives

Moonstone Conflict of ~500 BTC:The Luminary's ambition led to a major conflict when a meteor carrying a magical material called Lumina (Moonstone) crashed into the Sunfire Savannah. Believing it was a divine gift, the High Luminary of Aurora's Domain claimed it exclusively, meeting any intervention from humans or dwarves with violence and deceit.
The harvesting of Lumina & Ginnunga led to the desertification of the region, which became known as "The Expanse," fracturing alliances and fostering deep resentment among other races.

The Throne War: Tensions culminated in the Throne War, a conflict fought against humanity and their dwarven allies for control of the Dragonstone Archipelago, which was considered the "center of the world" due to the presence of six powerful Gemspires that landed during an event called "The Kaleidoscope". While the Luminary's arcane superiority was initially overwhelming, it was less effective against humanity's monstrous creations, the Subjurforged. Their arrogance and an attempt to destroy humanity in a single blast forced the gods to intervene, triggering the world-altering Therianthropic Convergence.

Therianthropic Convergence: Following the Convergence, the Luminary were forced to retreat back to their homeland Aurora's Domain, where they have remained in almost complete isolation. Most Luminary found in other regions are considered outcasts from their society. Sometimes Green Luminaries can be found in isolated settlements in every region, while Blue Luminaries can be more social, they prefer to stick close to the ocean.

View of Self and Others: The Luminary consider themselves refined beings. This sense of superiority has historically led to conflict, as seen in their dismissive and hostile actions during the Moonstone Conflict and the Throne War.

The Term "Elf": Referring to a Luminary as an "Elf" is considered a significant insult. In their language, the word translates literally to "pointy ears" and is seen as reducing their complex nature to a simple physical trait, akin to calling a human a "mammal" or a Theran a "pet".

Connection to The Dream: Luminary possess a unique connection to The Dream, a shared spiritual realm. All Luminary have the ability to Dreamwalk, allowing them to enter and influence the dreams of others. The Dream is shaped by collective belief; as faith in certain concepts or beings fades, they can vanish from The Dream entirely.

“I heard about a Luminary that combined the fantasies of four humans into one shared illusion. Every fantasy
became physical; every impossible position was achieved as if gravity had taken a day off. By dawn, they were exhausted, glittering faintly, and still arguing about what was dream and what was real.”
