Their true origins remain shrouded in mystery. Some scholars argue they predate the Therianthropic Convergence itself, citing their lack of the Theran language and their unusual customs as evidence of an older, possibly pre-Convergence . Where they came from, or how they endured into the present age, is entirely unknown.
The Spine Collectors are defined by cruelty, cunning, and a deep affinity for death magic. True to their name, they are infamous for harvesting the spines of their victims, which are kept as both trophies and sacred components in their dark rituals. These spines serve as the foundation for necromantic constructs, grotesque animate forms that embody the torment of those sacrificed.
Raiding and ambush are their favored tactics. Rather than facing opponents openly, Hyenakin warbands strike from the shadows, relying on trickery, distraction, and overwhelming brutality. Kidnapping is another hallmark of their activity. Victims vanish into Spine Collector camps and are rarely seen again, presumed to be offered in sacrifice or used as raw material for their grim practices.
Central to Hyenakin "culture" are ritualistic sacrifices used to create monstrous beings called Witherlings. These abominations embody the tribe’s blasphemous artistry, combining bone, sinew, and corrupted energies. Accounts describe them as relentless, mindless creatures, animated by pure malice and controlled only by the will of their creators.
Adding to their mystery, Hyenakin tribes have been found in possession of stone tablets engraved with the word Ginnugagap, an ancient term for The Void. The tablets’ purposes is uncertain, but their repeated appearance suggests a significant role in Hyenakin beliefs or long-term schemes.
