Cathringian History

When the Empire of Cathringia was founded in 290 BF, the region that is now home to the Carphalan people and under the control of Auresia was a core, if sparsely populated region, home mostly to Berengarens who founded the city of Sigramund, now modern Syagrium. Given its proximity to the lands of the Ogkan, the region often played a vital role in feeding the Cathringian armies in the Ogkan wars, while being mostly protected from Ogkan raids by the vast expansive forests that pierce deep into Őhürszág and the mountain range of Hochbergen which surrounded the fort of Berg Holdt. As such for 290 years, the region was a peaceful and fertile region of Cathringia.

Invasion

As the first Emperor of Poseia Arceius I marched his armies further south following the submission of the Reynessens into Cathringia, the region formerly known as Waldenmark may have mistakenly thought that they would be last to fall, if at all. However, under the command of the Emperor's brother, an Auresian force simultaneously captured Ostbader and soon sailed up the River Odine to the walls of Sigramund, where the city fell after a short and brutal siege.

The inhabitants of the city, were all put to the sword or taken back to the heartlands of the Empire as slaves. The Emperor's brother, henceforth known as the 'Butcher of the Waldenmark' embarked on a campaign of merciless genocide, clearing out the region and allowing his own men to settle there as the Emperor's armies reached the region in the following months. While furious at the actions of his brother, Arecius perhaps rightly allowed his brother to take control of the region as its Gracium, not only as a way of placating him from any further ambition of power, but also to keep a close eye over the recently conquered province of the Empire in Cathringia.
