History

Early Kingdom

One of the earliest human Kingdoms to establish themselves on the continent after a brutal war with the native Elves. Auresia quickly grew in importance and influence as the newly established Kingdom flourished with trade. While much of the early history was lost in the year of six kings 2266 BF as the original capital of Serdos (Rebuilt many centuries later) burned to the ground under the orders of Vilnis II burning all claimants alive in a supposed peace conference until his eventual assassination ending the line of Remes which had ruled from the founding of the Kingdom in 2723 BF.

The Clerical Age

The state that emerged from this was very different to the one before. A republic in all but name under the control of the High Cleric, the head of the newly founded and quickly growing religion of Clerasy. While a king remained (his name lost to history) they were merely a puppet to the Cleric who ruled the newly founded senate by a swathe of public opinion. Indeed, just as each new Cleric was appointed by public ballot, so too did the rich and powerful members of the senate elect them to the office of Consul. The Clerical age as it is known today lasted from 2265 BF to 1711 BF following which Cleric Leodis VI allowed the passing boy King Elium II to die without succession, taking control of the state entirely in the hands of the Cleric and ensuring his son and heir Caecum I took the role of Cleric and Consul following his death in 2245 BF.

Auresian Republic

The role of High Cleric and Consul passed from father to son for the next 554 years until when in 1711 BF Caecum VII died without issue allowing a fully formed republic to form as the first non Cleric Consul was elected. This separation of state and religion would cause numerous civil wars over the next three centuries as the two high offices battled over the control of Auresia.

Restored Monarchy

Finally in 1399 BF the two offices reunited under Marus II who proclaimed himself King of Auresia, dissolving the senate as he did. An age of prosperity followed the line of Marus for the next five hundred years until his last remaining heir Queen Gracium I died without issue causing a constitutional and religious crisis in 887 BF.

Auresian Anarchy

Clerasy quickly found its new place in the Kingdom, electing a relatively unknown knight from Reynesse, Juli I, the first Cleric to be born outside of Auresia. Under his rule, persecution spread throughout Poseia as unorthodoxy was punished with death. Many people saw Juli as the natural figurehead of Auresia and his religious reforms left lasting effects in the continent today as the Julites are still a prominent voice in Clerasy.

The state however underwent a period of civil war for the next two decades with no King holding onto the throne for longer than eights months. Eventually, a puppet under the control of Juli was able to maintain control of the Kingdom for the next 48 years until his death in 819 BF when another civil war erupted. Various factions emerged, the most prominent were the Whites under a now aged Juli who advocated for the two offices of state to be united once more and the Purples who called for religious interference in the state to be removed. In perhaps the most bloody civil war seen on the continent which lasted for just over a century, and during which Reynesse found itself dragged in following the death of Queen Mera II without issue in the year 717 BF. The Purples emerged victorious when Tritum III was proclaimed King of Auresia and Reynesse reuniting the Kingdoms for the first time since the days of Marus II. However, upon Tritum’s death, his final will separated the Kingdoms once more between his two sons. The line of Tritum ruled in both Reynesse and Auresia for two and six centuries respectively.

Empire of Poseia

However, the line continued through the female line in Auresia with the marriage of Arecius I and Giogria in 97 BF. Quickly, Arecius set about unifying Poseia in a dominant show of military genius. In less than a year, Arecius had unified Poseia under his rule. With the Auresian Empire being declared the same year.

This union stood until his death in 23 BF when the issues of the many cultures and Kingdoms that his Empire was composed of fractured back into their states in a series of wars that were significantly bloody; the ending of this conflict marked the changing of the calendar as Reynesse ceded from the Empire. The aftermath of these wars left relations between the Kingdoms weak, as they were terrified of another state gaining hegemony. However, while Auresia may no longer rule over the rest, their well trained soldiers and vast naval capabilities make them the strongest nation on the continent. Certainly the capital city of Vernatorlis is the most profitable and populous city.

The line of Arecius still rules the throne of this Kingdom, the current Emperor (Alexander V) is young and inexperienced. However, if the rumours of the castle are to be true, he aspires to reunite the states of Poseia under his rule.
