“Nobody should die alone in the dark. If I’m there, then they aren’t alone, and that’s already a win.”

Schuplij

Schuplij are compact, six-armed fuzzstorms of motion and emotion, all bright fur, wide eyes, and too many half-finished projects scattered across whatever bulkhead they’ve claimed as “home for now.” They treat starships, waystations, and Rift-blasted ruins the same way they treat people: something to fix, tidy, and “just help a little” until everything runs smoother—or at least more interestingly. Their culture prizes improvisational teamwork; a Schuplij crew can swarm a dying reactor, a broken exocortex, or a grieving stranger with the same instinctive urge to pitch in, offer tools, and give “allsix” hands to the problem.

Drift-Rubble Burrowers
Many Schuplij grew up in ramshackle habitats welded into asteroid belts, derelict ship clusters, or Rift-scoured orbital junkyards, learning early that survival comes from hyperactive cooperation and a willingness to help anyone who doesn’t shoot first.

Guildhouse Mascots and Nightmares
Guilds love Schuplij because they’ll throw themselves into logistics, repairs, and customer outreach with manic sincerity—right up until a “helpful” Schuplij rewires the guild’s security drones to “cheer up visitors.” Their presence is a status symbol and a liability.

Pathological Helpers in a Cruel Galaxy
Their instinct to assist collides hard with Starfall’s black markets, warlords, and data cults; it’s common to find a Schuplij enthusiastically “helping” a crime syndicate or Rift cult, having earnestly decided that making things run smoothly is better than leaving anyone to crash alone.

Example Quirks / Beliefs

  • Names every toolkit, drone, and weapon, then talks to them in the middle of firefights to “keep morale up.”

  • Gets visibly distressed if they can’t help with something; will accept absurdly dangerous or shady jobs because “they really, really needed me.”
