The adventurers found themselves ambushed in a tower of Cragmaw Castle by two horrifying, flying creatures with beaks and tentacles. One of the beasts immediately struck down Clara's owl companion, Archie, before wrapping its tentacles around Nissa herself. The party fought back, with Breith unleashing a wave of radiant energy and Erik swinging his sword, though the creatures proved resilient. Nissa, ensnared, managed to transform into a gaseous cloud to escape the creature's grasp and float to safety.
As the fight raged, the sounds of an approaching horde echoed from the castle corridors. Goblins and hobgoblins, alerted by the commotion, began to swarm their position. The party quickly dispatched the remaining tentacled monster and retreated into the room, barricading the door. They devised a clever but brutal strategy: open the door just enough to lure one enemy in at a time, overwhelm them, and then slam it shut again. This tactic proved devastatingly effective, as they systematically eliminated the goblinoids who dared to enter their kill box. The gnome artificer, Fizwick, even reappeared to create a diversion, helping to thin the enemy ranks before departing for good.
With the castle seemingly clear of threats, the party began to explore the remaining rooms. They discovered a battered chest containing gold, electrum, and magical scrolls. In what appeared to be a desecrated chapel, they found a golden statuette of an elf, which Clara discovered was an ancient, magical relic capable of answering a single question. As they reached for it, another tentacled beast emerged from the cracks in the stone, leading to another fierce battle. After defeating it, they explored a goblin shrine, finding valuable ritual items, and a storeroom containing Sildar's lost gear and a cask of exceptional dwarven brandy.
After collecting Gundren Rockseeker, the party barricaded themselves in a secure room for a long rest. During the night, a dragon flew overhead, spewing acid down upon the sleeping adventurers, injuring several of them. The next morning, they traveled back to Phandalin. There, they returned Sildar's equipment, sold their loot, and resupplied. Clara spent time copying spells into her spellbook and re-summoning her owl familiar, Archie. Erik, having gained renown, was recognized with a new title within the Order of the Gauntlet. With their business in town concluded, the party prepared for their next journey to the legendary Wave Echo Cave.
