The Spark of Masters consists of the most accomplished artisans within the Order. Each Master oversees one of the four foundational disciplines upon which the Runewrights were built. Together they coordinate expeditions, assign apprentices, direct research, manage workshops, and ensure that knowledge is shared among all members. While each Master specializes in a particular field, they govern together, believing that no single craft can stand without the support of the others.
Master of Flame
The Master of Flame oversees the physical crafts of the Runewrights within Liminalis and runs the Artificer Guild. Blacksmiths, armorers, leatherworkers, woodworkers, jewelers, tailors, and other skilled artisans look to them for instruction and guidance. They direct the forging of weapons, armor, tools, and equipment, ensuring every creation is both functional and worthy of bearing the Runewright name. They are responsible for maintaining the workshops, training craftsmen, and preserving the highest standards of craftsmanship.
The current Master of Flame is Garrick Ironvein.
Master of Essence
The Master of Essence oversees alchemists, apothecaries, herbalists, distillers, poisoners and healers and runs the Alchemy Guild. They are responsible for refining the raw ingredients into potions, medicines, oils, acids, powders and other useful compounds. The Master of Essence focuses on transforming that knowledge into something that can be bottled, contained, and used in the most trying of times.
The current Master of Essence is Ignacia Goldspire.
Master of Formula
The Master of Formula leads the Order’s scholars of magic and science and runs the Researcher's Guild. Enchanters, scribes, and rune crafters work beneath their guidance to develop new enchantments, improve existing formulas, and preserve ancient knowledge. They oversee magical experimentation, maintain the Order’s journals and archives, and ensure that every discovery is carefully documented so it may benefit future generations.
The current Master of Formula is Valeria Silverscale.
Master of Discovery
The Master of Discovery oversees all exploration and acquisition and runs the Delver's Guild. Delvers, surveyors, miners, scouts, salvagers, and resource specialists answer their call, venturing into forgotten ruins, dangerous wilds, and unexplored lands in search of rare materials, ancient techniques, and lost knowledge. They coordinate expeditions, evaluate recovered artifacts, and determine which discoveries should be studied, preserved, or safely destroyed.
The current Master of Discovery is Bren Steelroot.
A Runewright is a full member of the Order. Having completed their apprenticeship and sworn the Founders’ Oath, they are recognized as trusted artisans capable of representing the Order independently. Every Runewright possesses a working knowledge of smithing, enchanting, and fieldcraft, though each eventually develops their own specialty. They craft for the Enclaves, accompany expeditions, mentor apprentices, and continually seek to improve the knowledge entrusted to them.
Apprentices are students who have dedicated themselves to the ideals of the Runewrights. Under the guidance of a Master or experienced Runewright, they rotate through every discipline of the Order, learning the fundamentals of crafting, enchanting, and resource gathering before choosing a specialty. Apprentices are encouraged to ask questions, make mistakes, and experiment under supervision, for the founders believed that every master was once an apprentice willing to learn. Their ultimate goal is not merely to master a craft, but to become worthy of preserving and advancing the knowledge of the Order for generations to come.
You will have completed the Apprentice step at some point in your life before. This is a fun opportunity to work this information into your backstory to share with others.
The four Guilds of the Runewrights have presence in each of the Enclaves, providing support, knowledge, and armament to the people of Tellus. In the Realm of Liminalis, the Twiceborn of these guilds continue and expand upon their work, taking full advantage of the benefits offered by the Afterworld.
Artificer's Guild
Members of the Artificer's Guild are expected to be builders as much as inventors. They work closely with the other guilds to understand the properties of new materials, apply newly discovered formulas, and test their creations in the field. Their purpose is not simply to make impressive objects, but to ensure that every Runewright creation is reliable, purposeful, and capable of helping someone survive.
The Artificer's Guild produces the enchanted weapons, armor, tools and instruments used by the Enclaves and their defenders. They also repair the damaged equipment, improve existing designs, and create practical solutions to the problems faced by all in Liminalis.
Alchemist's Guild
The Alchemist's Guild transforms natural, magical, and recovered ingredients into useful substances. Its members include alchemists, apothecaries, herbalists, distillers, healers, and poisoners. They create medicines, restoratives, tonics, oils, salves, powders, acids, explosives, dyes, solvents, and other compounds needed by all of the Enclaves.
Alchemists study how ingredients react when combined, refined, heated, preserved, or exposed to magic. They work closely with Delvers to understand newly recovered reagents, with Researchers to develop stable formulas, and with Artificers to create treatments and substances that can be applied to equipment. Their purpose is to place Runewright knowledge into a form that can be carried, consumed, poured, burned, or applied precisely when it is needed.
Researcher's Guild
The Researcher's Guild studies magic, materials, sigils, ancient techniques, and the underlying principles that allow Runewright creations to function. Its members include rune scholars, scribes, theoreticians, historians, and magical researchers. They examine recovered items, test unfamiliar materials, develop new sigils, improve existing enchantments, and record both successful and failed experiments.
The Researchers are also responsible for preserving the Faction’s knowledge. They maintain blueprints, formulas, expedition records, crafting methods, and historical accounts so that no discovery is lost when its creator dies. Their purpose is to answer the questions that allow the other guilds to advance: what a material can endure, how an enchantment may be stabilized, why an experiment failed, and what might be possible with further study.
Delver's Guild
The Delver's Guild ventures beyond the safety of the Enclaves in search of the resources and knowledge the Runewrights require. Its members serve as explorers, salvagers, prospectors, surveyors, ruin-seekers, and field researchers. They locate rare plants, unusual minerals, monster components, forgotten workshops, and abandoned libraries left behind by the civilizations destroyed during the Cataclysm.
Delvers do more than gather valuable objects. They assist documenting where materials are found, identify dangers, map safe routes, and observe how ancient creations behave outside the workshop. Their purpose is to bring the unknown back to the Enclaves, ensuring that the Runewrights never become limited by only the materials and knowledge already available within the Enclaves.
