The Dark Hunt

A mysterious organisation nearly forgotten in the modern day, the Dark Hunt follows the Pure Dark and the less-known goddess Morgariel or Morghos. Originating in the Shadowfell, they periodically invade Abmarah once every millenia to destroy everything in their path much like a natural disaster. However, after their final invasion in 3E500 during the events of The Light of Lunaria, they were banished for good.

The cults who follow the Dark Hunt, Morgariel, or the Pure Dark in general are referred to collectively as the Sabatcieni. One such major cult which served as a safe haven for those looked down upon was based in Lunaria and led by three hags, namely Baba Ogafya, Baba Imka, and Baba Nadira. They were all defeated by their adoptive shadow-child Ilya during The Light of Lunaria.

History

During the churning chaos of the Realmshatter when realms merged and mixed, an eladrin witch discovered the pure darkness, a reality from before this current cosmos. She sought to corrupt her brethren to the darkness as well, and many minor gods and elves alike followed her dark witchcraft. With the power of the pure dark, she became its herald, now called Morgariel.

She focused the darkness into an artifact, a scepter, with which she started to cast her ultimate spell. Around the cauldron of darkness, she and her followers started to corrupt the Feywild itself and ascend Morghos into godhood. The armies of the archfey intervened, aided by many gods with the key ones being the elven creators, Deltus and Serenox. With the two major gods commanding the battle, the witch's forces lost, and the spell was interrupted. With her powers, the lady Serenox cut off the half-corrupted half of the Feywild, and created the Shadowfell. Lord Deltus bound Morghos in great divine chains, sealing the witch away within the heart of this new Plane of Shadow. Additionally, the archfey elders broke her scepter into three halves, for they could not destroy its darkness. Half of Morghos' followers remained in the Feywild, while the other half remained in the Shadowfell, becoming Shadow-Elves.

The army of the Hunt rode across the Shadowfell and feasted, awaiting the day they ride to Abmarah. An organized legion, they answered only to the dark god Gammus and the occasional leader that showed up. Hypothetically, if someone was to restore the scepter of Morgariel, they would become the supreme leader of the hunt.

Gammus was killed, the Sabatcieni was defeated, and the Dark Hunt was banished for good with the Dark Sceptre destroyed in 3E500 during The Light of Lunaria.

Goals

The Dark Hunt is a chaotic mess of an organisation, led only by a few generals as well as the minor dark god Gammus. They await their access to Abmarah once more, this time intent on destroying as much of civilization as they possibly can as vengeance for Morghos’ imprisonment. While they do aim to free her, they do not have any order or leadership that could plan something like that.

They act like a periodic natural disaster, and can return to Abmarah any day as they are already overdue for the invasion this millenia. There are druidic organisations who are aware of this threat, and are trying to stop the invasion from happening altogether or prepare themselves to fight the Hunt. There are dark cultists on Abmarah as well, who want the invasion to happen and try to sabotage the efforts of those who would try to stop it.

There are various gates to the Shadowfell across the world, sunken in the dunes of the Kav’orra Desert, disabled amidst mountain ruins, or lost underwater in the Blood Sea. Many of these cultists aim to find and excavate these gates, and re-open them via dark rites.
