The Arrival & The Rusted Anchor
The party arrived in the mountain-city of Borana, though the entry was anything but graceful. Following a rough morning—and a magical "detox" by Klackers that left Flint considerably lighter—the group made their way to the Rusted Anchor in the Harbor District. The tavern, built into a salvaged ship’s hull and smelling of oxidized copper, served as the backdrop for a grim reunion.
Meeting with Idris
The party met their contact, Idris the Dredger. The weeks (and the mountain) have been cruel; Idris is dying of alchemical poisoning, seeking retribution rather than a cure. He delivered three heavy truths:
Hydra Protocol: The Syndicate is harvesting draconic and planar bone marrow for eugenics and experimentation.
The Aethenaeum: Amani’s uncle’s weapons were diverted to this High Guild research lab in The Veins to arm monsters, not men.
The Bounty: Fresh wanted posters are circulating for Odra and Z’ed, labeling them "Subjects of Interest" for the Hydra Protocol.
The Slag-Baron’s Terms
While Flint worked on reverse-engineering shrinking potions in the Anchor’s hidden safehouse, the rest of the party descended into the Lower Vents to meet Silas the Scribe. The Slag-Baron offered a deal: flawless ID badges to bypass the Transit Elevators in exchange for a "favor." The party must infiltrate a maintenance sub-station to redirect power back to Silas's forge—a mission involving toxic gas and Sludge-Creepers.
An attempt to negotiate for supplies or information via Needle was flatly rejected. Silas provides opportunities, not charity. The party must now prepare for a dangerous mission with only the gear they can scrap together themselves.
Barnaby: The mountain-sized barkeep of the Rusted Anchor. Lazy-eyed and brusque.
Silas the Scribe: A powerful Slag-Baron and master forger ruling the Lower Vents.
Needle: A high-strung halfling scout who knows every pipe in the Slags.
Idris: A Stonekeeper agent disguised as a dredger who has contracted a terminal illness, now seeing restitution not a cure.
The Hydra Protocol: A Syndicate/High Guild initiative focused on biological weaponization and specimen reclamation.
The Aethenaeum: The premier research facility of the High Guild, buried deep in "The Veins" of the mountain.
Borana Infrastructure: The city is a vertical hierarchy; getting from the Slags to the Veins requires high-level clearance or dangerous bypasses.
