The Consolidation Engine is dead. In the frozen, cavernous gloom of the Aethenaeum’s deepest sublevel, the party executed their desperate sabotage under circumstances that turned razor-thin in seconds. With nine undead thralls summoned by Amani standing vigil in a defensive ring, Z'ed bared a scarred wrist and pressed flesh directly to the intake manifold’s biometric assay plate. Recognizing the Verdigris-altered marrow as Guild product, the ancient machinery refused to lock Z'ed out, opening the intake wide enough to deliver Old Maren’s contamination compound directly into the core fluid lines.
The chamber did not yield quietly. The foreign agent tripped automated failsafes: choking reagent mists blasted from wall-mounted nozzle banks, emergency seal-rams dropped like guillotines, and the central crystal cluster shattered to awaken the Lazerite Warden—a colossal Dwarven stone golem coursing with veins of glowing teal energy. While Z'ed endured the agony of anchoring the feed through the entire assault, the rest of the party waged war against both the room and the guardian. Working under blinding mist and the threat of an escalating countdown, you crippled the western vent banks and clamped the emergency signal relay before a distress chirp could breach the upper administrative floors.
The tide broke with the sudden, bumbling arrival of an old acquaintance: Fendrel, the lovable, toad-like tripkee oaf whose catastrophic luck had once again placed him on the wrong side of history. Armed with a bizarrely opportune Scroll of Stone to Flesh, Fendrel’s intervention turned the invincible Dwarven construct into screaming, vulnerable sinew. The golem collapsed under the party's follow-up strikes, and in keeping with tradition, the party mocked the shivering tripkee and spared his life. Three incoming skeleton crew technicians cycled through the blast doors; one fell in seconds, while the remaining two were bound and gagged on the stone floor. Overseer Vane was nowhere to be seen. The substrate is permanently ruined, the Warden lies butchered, and the city above remains entirely unaware that its masters have been struck a mortal blow.
The Engine Permanently Neutralized: Z'ed held the injection port open until full chemical saturation was achieved. The Verdigris-altered marrow substrate is contaminated beyond recovery; the High Guild's pacification broadcast cannot occur without rebuilding the infrastructure from scratch.
The Facility Kept Dark: Quick tactical action severed the primary signal relay before the sublevel’s distress claxon could alert the upper tiers. The mountain-wide alarm was avoided.
The Warden Destroyed: The ancient Dwarven stone-and-lazerite defender was felled thanks to Fendrel’s miraculous Stone to Flesh scroll. The oafish tripkee was spared once more to contemplate his life choices.
Prisoners of War: Two terrified Guild technicians remain tied up by the intake console, alive to answer for what they saw.
Silver Tail’s Trial Passed: Silver Tail moved past the open, humming substrate cylinder array without suffering neurological cascade or triggering external sensor beacons.
To be collected still:
Edran’s Cache: Still hidden in the storage annex behind Bank Three, resting beneath the loose Dwarven floor panel Edran mapped out for you.
The Recorder’s Station Records: The primary terminal remains unsearched. Inside sits the physical documentation detailing:
The Guild Plant: The true name of the embedded traitor who ran Dalla Sorn’s Pale Knives as a High Guild puppet for two years.
Subject 02: The operational log and identity of the second survivor of the Verdigris extraction program.
Raid the Room & Move: Sweep Edran’s cache, pull the traitor’s name from the terminal, and initiate the extraction route before patrol relief discovers the silent comms line.
The Route Upward: Decide whether to fight through the narrow Dwarven maintenance stairwell or make a break for the administrative loading docks to commandeer the logged delivery vehicle.
Reunion in the Shadows: Regroup with Dalla Sorn, the Pale Knives, and the turncoat Guild members waiting in the wings with forged transit papers and weapons bared.
Borana Awakens: Deliver proof of the Consolidation Engine to the streets. With the pacification threat severed, the Lower Vents and Middle Tiers stand ready to boil over into an outright revolution against the High Guild.
