The Peoples of Dölgyd (The Voräälyn)
The Voräälyn are a singular, insular race. Unlike the fractured tribes of Men or the environmental lineages of the Äälar, they remain one people under one king. They are the "Deep-Kin," whose lineage stretches unbroken to the dawn of the world.
The Three Pillars of the Deep
While they are one ethnicity, the Voräälyn are divided into three distinct roles or "castes" that define their life beneath the mountain:
The Lujönväki (The Forge-Masters): Those who dwell in the deepest heats of the mountain. Their lives revolve around the sacred craft of metal and magic. They are the architects of the Voräälyn’s legendary artifacts.
The Yrkkälä (The Lore-Keepers): The singers and wanderers of the deep tunnels. They are the memory of the race, pursuing wisdom and songs that have been forgotten by the world above for millennia.
The Vältmör (The Silent Wardens): The guardians of the threshold. It is their duty to ensure the mountain remains a fortress. They are masters of the lightless tunnels and are the first (and often last) thing an intruder sees.
Voräälyn Physicality & Presence
Look: Stout, steadfast, and weathered by stone and steam. They possess a presence that feels as heavy and permanent as the mountains themselves.
Language: Their tongue is rich, ancient, and entirely incomprehensible to outsiders. It is rarely, if ever, spoken to "Sun-Dwellers."
While an Äälar and a Voräälyn might recognize certain ancient shared sounds in their languages—pointing to a common ancestor in the deepest mists of time—the two are not mutually intelligible. To an Äälar, the Voräälyn tongue sounds like the grinding of rocks; to a Voräälyn, the Äälar tongue sounds like the whistling of a drafty cave.
Aura: To the other races, a Voräälyn often feels like a creature of myth—secretive, unyielding, and intensely loyal to their Eternal King, Kyost.
Voräälyn Naming Conventions
Voräälyn names are percussive and "heavy," often utilizing double vowels and hard consonants that echo the sound of a hammer on an anvil.
Male Names: Kyost, Dölgan, Vorn, Kärl, Mörko, Lujon, Tyyst, Hälv.
Female Names: Välla, Orka, Lyyti, Sanni, Mörna, Kerttu, Inga.
Surnames: They do not use family names in the human sense. Instead, they identify by their Pillar or their Relation to the King (e.g., Dölgan of the Lujönväki or Välla, Shield of Kyost).
