The Neipas System is a star system in the Carina-Sagittarius Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy, within present-day Izhketh territory. Its world Neipas is humanity’s ancestral homeworld and is now a dead world. The devastation of Neipas during humanity’s war with Erynar brought down its advanced civilization and drove the ark dispersal from which numerous human populations descend.
Neipas was the homeworld of an advanced starfaring human civilization. Humanity’s origins there predate the settlement of Earth and the emergence of the modern human successor powers. The human populations of those later worlds descend from survivors of the old civilization.
Humanity fought a catastrophic interstellar war against Erynar, the interstellar faction of the Erynari, whose homeworld is Eryn. Both sides inflicted enormous damage and committed atrocities. A biological weapon deployed by Erynar devastated Neipas and brought down its advanced civilization.
The wider war ended in stalemate, without a decisive victor. The resulting ceasefire remains in force.
As Neipas collapsed, human authorities launched enormous ark-ships under the threat of extinction. The vessels carried sleeping populations, genetic stores, biological records, technical archives, artificial systems and automated colonial equipment. There was too little time for careful destination surveys, and many arks were sent largely blind toward stars considered broadly capable of supporting life.
Most arks failed. Some were lost in transit, some reached dead or unsuitable worlds, and others arrived too damaged to establish viable settlements. Some may remain lost. Successful colonies followed markedly different histories: some rebuilt advanced industries and eventually regained interstellar capabilities, while others remained isolated.
Earth is one of the worlds settled through this programme. It is known to the wider interstellar community, although its own population does not generally know its place in that history.
The Izhketh expanded into the region as the humans retreated. The Neipas System now lies within Izhketh territory in the Carina-Sagittarius Arm.
Humanity survived the loss of Neipas in a greatly reduced state and required roughly 30,000 Cycles to recover almost completely. Helios and Arcendas emerged as major human successor powers. Geographically separated and without contact for thousands of Cycles, they developed distinct languages and traditions. They remain separate states, with neutral relations rather than a common government or alliance.
Neipas is the ancestral homeworld of a species now spread among many independent societies. Its devastation and the ark dispersal account for both humanity’s survival and the profound differences between populations whose histories unfolded in isolation.
