Nemoris is Imperion's green west, a province of deep old forests, misted valleys, and high mountains. Its people live close to the land, and its peaks hold the aeries of the Strix, a winged and reclusive folk who keep to the skies. It is a place where the empire's reach thins and the wild holds its own.
Nemoris is walled by mountains along its north and east, the North and South Nemoris ranges, with the Phylake Range in the southeast. West and center the land falls into the deep Nemoris Woods, an old forest threaded with rivers and cold lakes: Umbranox in the northwest, Aeterios at its heart by Larthenford, and Dysis in the south. The Boundless Blue breaks against its western coast, while beyond the eastern peaks lie the Aurelian Fields.
The people of Nemoris live by the forest: timber, herbs, game, and fine woodcraft, with old seasonal festivals kept in the sacred groves. Larthenford trades the region's woodwork and remedies, Gormsby mines the mountains, and Dasseth fishes the rivers, while the legion holds the province from bastions like Aeterna Castra. Higher up, the Strix keep to their mountain aeries, trading feathers and rare herbs but rarely mixing with the lowlands.
Nemoris is more patchwork than province. Town councils, hereditary lords, village chiefs, and druids each hold sway in their own corner, with imperial officials strongest around the garrisons and weakest in the deep woods. The Strix govern themselves entirely and answer to no imperial law unless the empire threatens them directly.
