Gelmora is Imperion's cold north, a broad frontier of dark forests, drowned marshes, and mountain crags. Far from the warmth of Altoria, it runs to mist, snow, and long nights, and its ruins and standing stones outnumber its towns. It is the empire's wild edge, thinly settled and full of places best left undisturbed.
Gelmora sweeps across the cold north of Imperion. The Wailing Marsh drowns its northern moors, Lake Vesper lies cold in the west, and through the center rise the Ironbark Forest and the highland of Ashenwood Heights, close by the ancient Stone Circle. Along its eastern edge climb the dark peaks of Noctis Heights, walling the province off from the empire beyond.
Life in Gelmora is hard and thinly spread. Its people are herders, hunters, woodcutters, and miners who work the cold slopes of Noctis Heights, keeping to close communities and old customs, wary of the moors after dark. The region has no great city, only scattered hamlets and holdfasts strung between the wilds.
The heights draw a stranger crowd. At Noctis Heights, astronomers from Altoria chart the night sky from a ruined observatory, continuing work begun there long ago. Between the standing stones, the deep marshes, and the ruins, Gelmora keeps more secrets than the empire likes to admit.
