Aurelian Fields

Overview

The Aurelian Fields are the breadbasket at the heart of Imperion, a broad basin of farmland just south of the capital, Altoria. The grain and livestock raised here feed the empire and fill its markets, making this gentle country the quiet foundation of Imperion's wealth.

Geography

The Fields open south of Altoria, a wide basin of farmland and pasture hemmed by mountains to the west and south. Roads and rivers thread down from the capital through market towns like Cineris and out to the farming settlements of Wyndor, Aquilonis, Thearic, Hartune, and Saelor along the western hills. The Whispering Pines mark the region's eastern edge.

Life and Rule

Life in the Fields moves with the seasons. Its people are farmers, herders, and millers, bound to the land and to the harvest that sets the rhythm of the year. They keep the old rites of planting and reaping, many tied to Aurelios, the sun god, and still tell the cautionary tale of the Golden King Aurelion, turned to a golden statue for his greed.

The Fields are Imperion's larder, worked by countless farming communities and overseen from Altoria itself. Because so much of the empire's bread comes from this one basin, control of the harvest and the roads that carry it is a quiet prize in the rivalries of Imperion's noble houses.
