Overview

Orestes, the Forgefather, is the god of labor, craftsmanship, and the endurance it takes to shape metal and stone, stern overseer of the earth and its hidden treasures. He is shown as a bearded man with arms like tree trunks, in a leather apron, carrying a great forge hammer. He teaches that hard work and patience are the road to greatness. Miners, blacksmiths, and builders revere him for his steadfastness and discipline.

Tenets

Edicts

  • Work diligently and with purpose.

  • Build and create to leave a lasting legacy.

  • Honor the earth and its treasures.

  • Teach others the value of perseverance and discipline.

Anathema

  • Destroy tools or creations without reason.

  • Exploit workers or resources for selfish gain.

  • Abandon a project before it is finished.

  • Disrespect the earth by taking without giving back.

The Church

The Church of Orestes, the Forgekeeper's Brotherhood, is devoted to labor, craftsmanship, and the keeping of the earth's treasures. It teaches hard work and discipline, and brings workers and artisans together on projects meant to outlast them.

Structure
  • High Forgekeeper — head of the Church; guides doctrine and major works.

  • Master Smiths — senior clergy who mentor others and run large builds.

  • Journeyman Priests — traveling clergy who bless forges and aid communities.

  • Apprentice Forgemasters — clerics in training.

  • Lay Artisans — devout followers who give their craft and labor.

Rituals
  • Blessing of the Forge — consecrates new tools, forges, or workshops.

  • The Forgefast — fasting and hard labor to renew one's dedication.

  • Stonebreaking Ceremony — miners and builders offer their first findings.

  • Hammer's Respite — weekly gatherings to take stock and trade stories.

  • Anvil's Call — striking metal in rhythm as meditation.

Duties
  • Build temples, fortifications, and public works with their own hands.

  • Bless tools, forges, and building sites.

  • Train apprentices, and argue for ethical mining and careful craft.

Temples

Grand forges that are working shops as much as places of worship, alongside halls of the anvil where artisans gather and small shrines near quarries, mines, and building sites.

Worship

Orestes' followers are miners, blacksmiths, builders, and laborers who honor him through their craft, treating the work as a sacred act. His church presses for fair labor and sustainable craft, moves communities to take on ambitious projects, and mediates disputes over resources.

Types of Followers
  • Miners and quarry workers — pray for safety and success in their labor.

  • Blacksmiths and artisans — seek his blessing for mastery of their craft.

  • Builders and architects — honor him as patron of construction and design.

  • Laborers and common folk — turn to him for strength in daily work.

Daily Practice
  • Work is sacred — labor is worship, and met with purpose.

  • Respect for the earth — honor the materials given up; avoid waste.

  • Strength in community — nothing great gets built alone.

  • Craftsmanship as legacy — every creation records the maker's skill.

Aphorisms
  • "Strike true, strike steady."

  • "The earth yields its treasures to the patient hand."

  • "Build to endure the test of time."

Holidays
  • Forgefire Festival — held in workshops and forges, with crafting competitions and one grand communal work made for Orestes.
