Overview

Moira, the Fatebearer, is the goddess of fate, destiny, and time. She is shown as a dignified figure with her eyes bound in golden cloth, a sign that she plays no favorites, and a spindle in her hands spinning the threads of fate. She is kind and hard by turns, since no destiny stands alone and none can be let run unchecked. Judges, prophets, adventurers, and ordinary folk trust her unseen hand.

Tenets

Edicts

  • Honor the balance of fate.

  • Act with fairness and uphold justice.

  • Trust in the flow of destiny.

  • Guide others to accept their path.

Anathema

  • Disrupt the natural flow of fate.

  • Manipulate the threads of destiny for selfish gain.

  • Defy prophetic visions.

  • Deny justice to the wronged.

The Church

The Church of Moira, often called the Loom of Destiny, keeps the balance and sees that fate's natural flow is respected. Its members call themselves stewards of the threads: they unravel mysteries, give counsel, and hold the line on justice.

Structure
  • The Grand Weaver — highest cleric; Moira's mortal voice.

  • Keepers of the Spindle — senior council; oversees temples and doctrine.

  • Threadbinders — carry visions and settle fate-bound disputes.

  • Seamstresses and Seamsters of Truth — keepers of her sacred texts.

  • Weavewardens and Initiates of the Loom — traveling clergy and novices.

Rituals
  • Threadbinding Ceremony — each follower weaves a strand into a shared tapestry.

  • The Hourglass Vigil — watching sand run while taking stock of choices.

  • Fateweaving — priests read the threads of fate for anyone who asks.

  • Judgment of Threads — a hearing settled by calling on Moira.

  • The Golden Loom Festival — tapestries woven yearly and hung as offerings.

Duties
  • Arbiters of Destiny — judge disputes without favor.

  • Prophets and Visionaries — read dreams and omens.

  • Preservers of Balance — keep fate from being forced off course.

  • Teachers and Advisors — teach her doctrine.

Temples

Temples of the Loom are halls hung with woven scenes of fate, with quieter Sanctuaries of Time for reflection, Fatebound Archives of prophecy, and plain Weaveposts on the roads.

Worship

Moira's followers share a trust in fate and a commitment to justice, and value fairness and the way everything connects. Common folk ask her for strength, believing their hardships belong to a larger design. Her church settles disputes without favor, and its divinations offer clarity when nothing else does.

Types of Followers
  • Judges and Mediators — drawn to her teachings on fairness and balance.

  • Prophets and Scholars — seek her help with the mysteries of time and destiny.

  • Adventurers and Heroes — turn to Moira for a clearer sense of their path.

  • Everyday Devotees — ordinary people who pray for the strength to accept what comes.

Daily Practice
  • Fate Guides All — trust that every event, good or bad, has a place.

  • Justice is Sacred — be fair in what you do and decide.

  • Reflection and Meditation — silent time each day to settle back into fate's flow.

  • Community Threads — service and unity strengthen what binds a society.

Aphorisms
  • "All threads lead to the loom."

  • "Fate spins, we follow."

  • "The spindle holds no bias."

Holidays
  • Day of Threads — a solemn holiday for taking stock of one's place in the design of fate. Temples hold ceremonies where devotees weave threads into tapestries as offerings to Moira.
