The Kav'orran Archaeological Survey, also known by its initials KAS, is an organization founded by rich educated nobles, influential merchants, and scholars dedicated to the archaeological research, conservation, and preservation of historical artifacts, locations, and monuments within the Kav'orra. Founded recently in 3E456 by Raniji Miina Rethi in the city of Kasaaq, it is currently run by her younger daughter Vidya Rethi. It was Director-General Vidya Rethi herself whose love of history and influential nobility allowed her to pull enough strings and money to make KAS happen. The Survey is headquartered in the Kasaaq Archaeological Museum (KAM) within the capital city.
In addition to surveying historical sites as well as recovering, preserving, and displaying artifacts, the archaeologists working for the Survey are given government approval and authority to essentially explore wherever they wish. These explorers dive deep into primordial Namheti or Makheti ruins, surveying everything from sunken necropolises to razed temples. KAS is among the few organizations of the Kav'orra actually interested in researching the lost history of the dunes, instead of simply destroying and building over ancient structures.
However, this recently founded faction has been criticized by many people across the desert for things like breaking into sacred sites, 'stealing' artifacts of cultural importance, and failing to protect historical monuments from further degradation. The archaeologists are also sometimes seen as reckless and glorified grave-robbers that take the heritage of other cities and deliver it to Kasaaq. Some have even gone as far as accusing the Survey to be 'cultists' of Gunradev.
KAS aims to research and record the history of the Kav'orra Desert and even the lands around it, exploring lost ruins, recovering historical artifacts, and preserving the lost cultures that have long since sunk into the dunes. To that end, they receive favorable treatment from the government as well as funding that some might call excessive, especially in these politically turbulent times. KAS also owns many of the museums across the country, storing and displaying the various artifacts it has collected while sharing the knowledge with other similar archaeological societies across the world.
The Survey enjoys the status of being a government-funded organization run by one of the rich nobles of House Rethi. As such, all other organizations of the Hukumat are friendly to KAS by necessity. KAS has a neutral relationship with the Department of Dungeons, who have complained about the favorable treatment of KAS’ archaeologists over their ones. Similarly, many of the Survey’s members were once students from Zrari Academy and both organizations vie for the same magical artifacts and pieces of history, having had a lot of arguments over historical research despite being so interlinked.
