"He might've given mortals fire, but he's the one who's lit half the flames that burn us away."
Gunian the Archivist is the god of knowledge. One of the more terrifying yet neutral gods to the average mortal, many scholars devote their lives under his name. Many origin stories for humanity claim that Gunian was the one who gifted them with their ingenuity. He is said to be the creator of mankind, but it is heavily disputed. Gunian visually looks like a half-elf.
He's known for his temptations and lies, famously haven given disillusioned Angels the secret to becoming Devils during their rebellion and turning many into his own personal librarians called the Keepers. While some blame him for the whole affair that led to the death of the first deity, that too was new knowledge for Gunian. It is not just Dimensus' death that is on him, though, as it his actions that led to the curse of Azbaan, the metal that can kill gods used in the Omniborn Crisis.
He has his own realm that consists of an infinite library called the Archive. To take from the archive, you must present Gunian with new knowledge he does not yet know of—or a look into your memories. This attitude is extended into worshiping him general. Clerics and scholars alike can ask Gunian for his knowledge, and so long as you give knowledge back in return he does not mind whether you use his gifts for evil or for good.
The Archivist's symbols are his many eyes, sometimes depicted as one eye representing Voidspace or as a ring of many eyes not unlike his Keepers. His own true eyes are depicted as silver and mirror-like, reflecting your own desires back at you. The grey-eyed god's eyesight represents his infinite intellect, cold clarity, and intense focus. Gunian having his metaphorical eyes spread across the cosmos does mean that he is often spread too thin to focus on all knowledge himself, and there is a famous saying from Teer that states "Vitri has many eyes everywhere, and nowhere."
He is the son of the elven titans Deltus and Serenox. Through the connection to his mother, he is the half-brother of Nosos and might also be related to Dradus. He also has a child named Betus, a human god of love born when Aethys seduced Gunian into giving her some lost knowledge of vismancy.
Gunian is worshiped by scholars and wizards the world over, even ones that normally are against any celestial gods such as the College of Zaubarovia. He is considered to be a neutral deity in Aeterism, despite so many of his utterly evil actions throughout history. While there is no organized cult that worships him, many individual cultists do revel in the malevolence and power-hungry aspects of Gunian.
He was also the master of the Kenku, and is credited with taking from them their wings, their creativity, as well as their voices—as either payment for something unknown or as punishment for a crime long forgotten. According to legend, the kenku betrayed their master. Unable to resist the lure of a beautiful sparkling treasure, they plotted to steal the item and escape to the Material Plane. Unfortunately for the kenku, their master discovered their plan before they could enact it. Some believe that the curse was not out of revenge, but payment taken by Gunian for a knowledge now-lost. However, in Meiðrism it is believed that the venerated Kenku are actually divine seers and servants who serve as Vitri's eyes on Abmarah and tell him of new information through their prayers.
