Evan Joyheart was born into a crowded, chaotic household, the eldest of nine siblings. His family was poor, struggling to make ends meet in the outskirts of a city where the wealthy and the powerful rarely looked down at the impoverished. Despite the challenges he faced, Evan was determined to rise above his circumstances. He worked hard from a young age, learning the value of discipline and dedication, and managed to escape the clutches of his noisy, demanding siblings. At the age of 18, he joined the Magisters, working his way up the ranks with his sharp mind and impressive control over magic.

For the first time in his life, Evan felt respected. His skills as a sorcerer and magister, along with his calm demeanor and focused approach to magic, earned him recognition. He separated from his family, leaving behind the constant clamor of his younger siblings, and carved out a place for himself in the Magisters. He even started to make a name for himself, achieving a level of prestige among his colleagues.

However, fate had other plans. A few days ago, when walking with his fellow colleagues and the sourcedogs, through Eda Moriana, however the sourcedogs, not only sniffed out source within the people of Moriana, he too was found having a lingering source smell from the hounds. His colleagues, those he had considered friends, immediately turned on him, seeing his newly found power as a threat. They accused him of being a danger to the the world, citing the uncontrolled nature of his magic and its potential for destruction. The betrayal was swift and merciless, and Evan found himself cast out, stripped of his position and sent to Fort Joy.

Now, Evan finds himself on the other side of the equation, once a Magister, now a prisoner, looked down upon by the very people he once worked with. His relationship with the Magisters at Fort Joy is strained, and though a few weeks ago they were colleagues, he is now seen as a "cautionary tale" of what can happen when someone succumbs to Source magic.

Current Situation:

Evan arrived at Fort Joy a few days ago, his mind still reeling from the betrayal and the uncertainty of his new life. His past as a Magister is a constant weight on his shoulders. He no longer carries the air of confidence he once had; instead, there’s a subtle wariness in his eyes. The other prisoners can see his emotional scars, and though they might pity him or look at him with disdain, no one really knows what to make of him yet.

He tries to help around the camp, though his efforts are often clumsy and unproductive. The Magisters rarely give him tasks and prefer to keep him on the fringes, treating him with suspicion. Every time someone looks at him, there’s a flicker of doubt in his chest, are they judging him for his fall from grace, or are they wary of the potential danger his Source magic could bring?

Evan’s emotions are in constant turmoil, resentment toward his former friends, fear of his own powers, and guilt for the things he can’t control. The Source magic inside him is both a blessing and a curse, and though he is afraid of it, he also knows it’s part of who he is now. The magic constantly hums within him, making him feel as if he’s teetering on the edge of losing control at any moment even though the magic is suppressed by the sourcecollar. The emotional toll of all of this weighs heavily on his psyche, leaving him in a state of unease and emotional paralysis.

Personality:

  • Emotionally Wounded: Evan’s past has left deep scars on him. He carries a heavy burden of resentment and betrayal, unable to fully forgive those who turned on him. His emotional wounds are still raw, and he struggles with feelings of guilt and inadequacy.

  • Cautious and Uneasy: Though he’s been exposed to Source magic, Evan is still afraid of it. He’s unsure how to control the power inside him, and he fears that it might break free at any moment. This constant anxiety makes him reluctant to use his magic and keeps him distant from others.

  • Resentful but Loyal: Though he feels betrayed by his former colleagues, Evan still has a strong sense of loyalty. If someone earns his trust, he will stick by them. However, this loyalty is hard to earn, as his trust in others has been severely damaged.

  • Fearful and Self-Doubting: Evan is plagued by self-doubt. He is unsure of his place in the world, now that he’s been cast aside by both his family and his colleagues. His fear of failure and making mistakes makes him hesitant to take any action, even when he knows it’s the right thing to do.

  • Quiet and Reserved: Evan prefers to keep to himself, spending most of his time in isolation or lost in his thoughts. He doesn’t seek attention, and often, his presence is barely noticed by others. His tendency to avoid people is both a defense mechanism and a reflection of his lack of confidence.
