Unknown Date, 2425 - Chapter 3 - Session 4 - Swamp Thing (not the Wes Craven one)
We get into town and Dugan starts showing us around. Its a quant little town. Some local trading post, a small mercantile presence and a place to stay, The Heartwood Lodge. As he's showing us around the soft hum still lingers in the air. Very ominous. There is also a small Syndicate presence here. Some surveyors and personnel. We make our way into the Heartwood Lodge and he proceeds to introduce us to the village elder, Elder Vane, an stoic elderly woman who seemed less than happy to see new mouths to feed in her village and Huntmaster Kale, a rugged man who looks very untrusting. It was made very clue by everyone's demeaner that we are expected to hold our own and pitch in while we are here. Dugan did mention that there has been some strange sickness or disease or something effecting animals in the area that is very concerning. The town seems more worried about what's going on in the forest than the nearby Syndicate presence. During our talk with Elder Vane a nearby Syndicate surveyor's attention was moving towards us. Klacker's stepped behind our group and shapeshifted into a Dwarf with Syndicate regalia and waved them off before they got too close to hear. I brought up some ideas for fortifications for the town against the forest and they seemed impressed and interested. Slowly gaining some trust which was good. Turns out there are some hunting stones in the center of town that seem to be set to help protect the town from whatever Fey influence is going on in the area. We are then shown the armory where they had a very small supply of some cold iron bolts, arrows and mundane weapons which they told us have proven effective against any Fey. Hidden behind some shelves and cobwebs I found a nail bomb which I might be able to reverse engineer.
After all that we decide to check out the perimeter of the town to get a lay of the land and what we might be dealing with. Kale takes us to the woods and we find some deep prints and felled trees when through the thick Kale says "There!" and we see a giant shambling creature being flanked by wolves. The creature looks like some kind of Swamp Thing. It was fascinating. I was compelled to get a closer look at it. Bruin the beast he is rushed one of the wolves and just beat the fur off of it. I got right up to the creature to get a good look at the marvelous thing when one of its wolves ran up to me and bit down hard around my torso. Fuck that hurt like a son of a bitch. Z'ed started throwing lighting around like an electric storm. Klackers got in there bonking everything around him. Odra slashing the wolves into new coats while Amani came to her senses just in time to get bit and grabbed by everything in sight. I fell back to start raining bottled lightning and fire bombs from the sky. The wolves fell pretty easily but the shambling swamp creature could take a hit. We eventually whittled it down until it started running away but not fast enough. Amani summoned a hoard of her thralls that just obliterated the creature into a black goo of tendrils and vines. In the middle of the remains an unusual object was protruding from the mess. We grabbed it and got out of there before any more strange creatures showed up.
We make the trek back to town to lick our wounds. We give the item we found to Dugan to take a look at. He takes a look at it and says its not Fey corruption but rather something infernal and unnatural. The beast was a conduit with something greater controlling it. Elder Vane says that the Syndicate, if involved, are dabbling in friction between planes and demonic forces. We agree to dig a little deeper into it and they point us toward "The Sentinel Stone" . . .
