North District

Overall

The Northern Part of Stormhaven belongs to the Lords' Alliance. They consider it their southern castle, which should filter everything coming from the south. It is also a place where they teach promising Kildarians magic, intelligence, and other skills, asking for their loyalty in return.

General layout

The Northern Part includes three former districts: Elanium, Gallows End, and Varina. The general layout remains the same, although destroyed buildings have generally been replaced with cheaper ones, and the walls have not been repaired uniformly.

The northern parts of the districts were repaired with wood and clay bricks, while the southern parts were fully rebuilt. This was done because of differing priorities: the northern part is already patrolled by Lords' Alliance forces and therefore does not require strong fortifications, while the south belongs to the goblins of Anfyn and other Free Striders, making border control there much more important.

An additional watchtower was built between the Elanium and Gallows End districts because some goblins are allowed to enter Elanium but cannot travel any further. Additionally, the entire sector is equipped with magic suppressors. Not all of them operate continuously, but those positioned along the border usually do.

Population

The population of the Northern Part of Stormhaven is quite diverse, but they all have one and a half goals: to serve the Lords' Alliance or to learn how to become a proud citizen of the Alliance.

Soldiers keep Northern Kildar safe, students study how to wield magic safely, future advisors learn about Kildar's position on the political map, editors of the Gazette keep the population informed, and so on. All of these people can come from any part of Kildar or Faerûn.

The only part of the local population that does not serve the Lords' Alliance consists of fey, goblins, and visitors to the Elanium district who come there to pray to Lady Elaine. However, they have restricted access to this part of the city and cannot travel beyond the Elanium district unless they go through the normal procedure for crossing the border.

Economy and activities

This district does not focus heavily on financial success. Instead, it provides the Lords' Alliance with whatever it needs, both here and beyond.

East part

The former Varina district is a fortified shell that keeps the local Lords' Alliance forces operating. This is where both the leaders and soldiers of the Lords' Alliance live and train, where blacksmiths repair soldiers' equipment, and where engineers and magic users maintain the magic suppressors.

The area is also famous for its hospitals, where Lords' Alliance forces recover from their wounds. One of these hospitals is one of the few places that ordinary people might visit, as the Lords' Alliance sometimes sends an ill person here if there is no hope of getting help elsewhere. Otherwise, this area is strictly reserved for members of the Lords' Alliance and citizens of the Lords' Alliance from Faerûn.

The famous Gazette Printing House is also located here, and even after ten years, it still brings news to the whole of Kildar. Of course, the Lords' Alliance keeps a close eye on what the Gazette writes, but in general, its articles have become softer in recent years. In addition, the Gazette now collaborates with news writers from Faerûn to exchange news between Kildar and Faerûn, bringing greater diversity to both sides.

Eventide Academy

Eventide Academy was always overshadowed by the famous Jahred University. The Lords' Alliance found a new purpose for it, and it is now one of the few truly functioning institutions in Stormhaven.

Today, Eventide Academy has two main areas of study: magic and political subjects such as diplomacy, rhetoric, history, political geography, and so on. Those who study magic usually become high-ranking spellcasters in the Lords' Alliance, working in the army, Tribunal, or other departments. Those who study non-magical subjects also have a wide range of professions to choose from. Among the most prestigious opportunities is being sent to Faerûn as a representative of Kildar. There are also some students who come here from Faerûn, trying to learn more about Kildar and become part of the bureaucratic machine of the faraway, exotic island.

Locals are not able to apply to study at Eventide Academy. Instead, the Lords' Alliance searches for promising students throughout Kildar. There are two main requirements for prospective students. Ideally, the person should be easy to teach, and it should be possible to turn them into a loyal member of the Lords' Alliance. Often, the Lords' Alliance approaches poor families with promising children and offers to educate their child for free. Usually, parents are hesitant at first, but in most cases they accept, as this is a good opportunity to give their child a better future.

Because of all this, the academy is still not widely talked about. However, when someone hears that you studied there, it may inspire suspicion, respect, and fear—in any combination.

Last but not least, Eventide Academy works closely with the Tribunal. One of its main responsibilities is issuing magic licenses to people who wish to cross the border without one. Applicants must be willing to pay the required fee and undergo the necessary checks before receiving their license.

Temple of Lady Elaine

The Temple of Lady Elaine is the only place where non-members of the Lords' Alliance are allowed to live and work. Goblins and fey from other places often receive permission to come here to pray to Lady Elaine. Compared to the main shrine of Lady Elaine in Anfyn, where the Crusaders of Lady Elaine still hold some power, this shrine has become famous for being peaceful and even quiet. This can be explained by the fact that most of Stormhaven's goblins came here in the first place to escape the civil war in the south. Many of them came to this shrine, and still come here, to pray to Lady Elaine for her protection and to ask her to save them from any potential violence.

Of course, disagreements sometimes arise over whether this place should belong to the goblins and fey, but they are rarely taken seriously, as everyone here wants to preserve the status quo and avoid conflict.

In many cases, the temple is also where political talks between the southern regions and the Lords' Alliance take place. On the one hand, the temple has deep cultural roots in the south, and neither side expects the other to attack them in such a sacred place. On the other hand, it is located on Lords' Alliance territory, meaning that both parties feel relatively safe there.
