Episode 56 Synopsis

In the aftermath of the crystal's destruction, Torrin learns that the incomplete Crystallic could force Mount Kyphos and Kypheron back into slumber, but the attempt would likely kill him. He refuses the sacrifice, believing the Harbingers must first restore the artifact and confront the greater darkness threatening Tyve. The group frees the surviving red dragon, which departs as Kypheron's roar shakes the land. Mount Kyphos erupts into a pillar of fire, and countless dragons rise through the flames before descending across the burning horizon. The Vey reveal that Kypheron was bred to burn the world and that only the Spear of Avorinth might stop him.

The Harbingers divide their efforts between finding Zandra and evacuating the Slyphash refugees. Torrin, Bjorn, Bjork, and several Vey return to the fortress, discover six abandoned dragon eggs, and carry them to the tallest tower while the refugees pass through a hidden portal to Keph. The freed red dragon returns, but Kypheron speaks through its body, identifies Torrin as the Veyan king, and declares that the world will be cleansed in fire. It kills Vendorante, burns Slyphash, and explodes into a swarm of aberrant dragonlings. The creatures pursue the Harbingers through the portal, but the refugees escape to Keph. Elsewhere, Normandy carries the dark scepter to the Twilight Temple after a second group survives another dragonling attack within Slyphash.

At the Twilight Temple, Zandra recognizes the scepter as the former weapon of Ulvarian Titus, the greatest enemy of Darius, and warns that it cannot be easily destroyed or contained. The Librarian reveals that Kypheron should never have awakened, that the Spear of Avorinth once ended the War of Fang and Fire, and that the completed Crystallic should be able to return the dragon god to sleep. At Keph, an emissary of the Chain demands the bodies of Whisper and Ernan in exchange for allowing the keep's people to become slaves. Torrin and Bjorn reject the ultimatum and warn him about the awakened dragons. The Harbingers reunite, exchange news of the Treus chamber, the dragon eggs, and the Chain's coming attack, then attempt to rest. During the night, Normandy dreams of a blurred figure surrounded by green lightning who warns that he will not wake and that he is already burning.
