From the Sanctorum Obelisque, the Harbingers watch the Maligned Maelstrom race toward Gavra as a towering wall of water and living darkness. Torrin sees fragments of the lost Veyan civilization tumbling within it, as though the storm is carrying the broken memories of his people. Marquis Selendra Cassiandros draws out a Crystallic fragment and channels its light through Gavra's glint towers, briefly driving the darkness from the walls while the artifact burns away her life. The Harbingers regroup with Zandra, Brill, Silas, Madame Iris, Lily, Lendo, and the surviving Dread Stalkers. Believing Cassiandros's knowledge and the Maelstrodomus may be their only path to survival, they carry her down through the collapsing castle rather than allow the Crystallic to consume her.

Torrin pulls the fragment from Cassiandros and remembers a Veyan father teaching him that power is not taken but given, and that the Crystallic answers those filled with light. The removed fragment extinguishes the city's defenses, but Cassiandros revives long enough to direct the group toward the ship. When Torrin tries to awaken the fragment again, Mathias Ephelthine instead draws Bjorn into darkness and questions whether saving his niece is selfish or sacrificial. Mathias says he needs Normandy to enter the Ithelion, promises prosperity for Bjorn's people if he helps free him, and warns that a future choice will involve someone who is not Bjorn's friend. As the group races toward the harbor, Helena holds the Crystallic against Stefon's empty vial and recites the legend of Tyve. The fragment ignites, relights every glint tower, and leaves Helena unconscious within its radiance as the others carry her onward.

At the wharf, the Harbingers find the Maelstrodomus occupied by Wylas Velpa and an armed Velpan militia. Cassiandros had promised the prototype to the group, but Wylas refuses them passage and orders his soldiers to kill them before boarding his ship. A desperate battle begins across the collapsing piers while the storm closes to within minutes of Gavra. Whisper boards the vessel and interferes with its cannons, Wylas cuts an anchor and demands that the crew depart, and several Harbingers are left wounded or unconscious between the wharf and the ship. Helena rises, takes hold of the fallen Crystallic, and deliberately releases its fire. Light sweeps through Gavra, restores two shadow-possessed citizens, and gives the city a final moment to regroup. The episode ends with Helena standing like a martyr before the approaching wall while the struggle for the Maelstrodomus remains unresolved.
