Demantrius drives the true aspect of the Oriun Blade through Acuras's ethereal mist, forcing the Blood Lord back into a wounded material form and absorbing part of him into the weapon. As the companions lie dying, Helena awakens on a white shore beside black water and follows her brother Stefon through a storm at the edge of Sethis's light. Stefon reveals the complete memory behind Vyr's soul shard: Vyr accidentally killed him while trying to save Ildren, and Ildren then murdered the surviving Umtheran Zeres before telling Vyr that two of their own had fallen. Stefon says his light has always remained with Helena and returns her to life. Helena stabilizes her companions, awakens Vyr, and finds Demantrius standing over the still-living Acuras. Demantrius refuses to kill him and instead tells Vyr to choose. Vyr deliberately drains Acuras's soul, creating a red X-Crystal and experiencing the intoxicating hunger of her power as Acuras's army collapses below.

The surviving Evenari confront Helena over her role in the destruction of Venfallas. Her incomplete explanation does not earn forgiveness, but Bjorn demonstrates that Acuras's blood no longer controls her, and the Evenari withdraw rather than attack. The Harbingers explore Keph after its magical corridors become ordinary. A white key from Acuras opens a concealed stair beneath a displaced stone block, leading to an ancient chamber where pipes from Demantrius's boiler converge upon a cold, faceless body stitched from humanoid parts. A voice within the Deathless Flame offers to use the body as a clean vessel and restore Normandy's life, but Normandy refuses and burns it. Nearby, Torrin activates a locked energy orb and remembers a woman teaching his younger self how to operate the same mechanism in a classroom of glass. Releasing the stored power transforms Keph into a translucent Veyan fortress and drives a teal beam through the clouds, briefly pouring true sunlight across people who have never seen it.

Families from Keph arrive and recognize loved ones among Acuras's released thralls, while the Grey Knights begin turning the fortress into a refuge. Torrin's Sending to Zandra returns only labored breathing and the warning that she is a canvas for someone else's art. By the night fire, Demantrius names Vyr a Soul Reaper and teaches that pathomancy can give life by taking it from another creature. He warns that other reapers will hunt the souls she has gathered and that even he may become her enemy if she yields to the hunger, then says he intends to travel west. Helena returns to the Moon Lake with her vial and ceremonial star cloth, but its magic and the veil of Venfallas are permanently gone. An Evenari tells her that atonement must come through future action. At dawn, the people of Keph ask who the Harbingers are, while far to the west Zandra sits imprisoned in a bamboo cage beneath the gaze of a tattooed captor and a headless figure belonging to the Plague Artists of Slyphus.
