Government Structure

The Yrwin convene at the great hall of Tarhain within Caertaf when they are faced with eternal or internal threats and come to a collective response, with each Yrwin holding just as much power as the others. Although, the eldest Yrwin, the Dúnseal, chairs the meeting and is often seen as the figurehead of their kind following their uniting millenia ago during the war with the Valaälar.

The Yrwin do not care either way, with no great cities to speak of; they live off the land and worship it all the same. The only thing of any great advancement are the carved stones which are dotted around the Freelands with the ancient runes of the Yrwin carved into them, although many cannot read them as they once could, with the written form of the language becoming more and more forgotten; those that can read it are revered amongst the Yrwin.

Law

Unsurprisingly, the Yrwin value nature above all else, and have strict laws (if not written) regarding the destruction of it. The most important is that if you take something from nature, you should subsequently give back to it. For example, if you fell a tree to heat your home in the winter, and you should plant one in its place. Through this, they believe they keep nature in harmony, and ensure that the enchantments that protect Gwylenn are kept in check.

For this reason, the Yrwin are greatly opposed to anything that might harm the ancient enchantment that guards their lands once bestowed upon them by ancient druids, and their laws are closely in accordance with that. While they will not bestow death on law-breakers, they will be exiled and prevented from returning home.

Otherwise, the Freelands are true to their name, each individual within the lands are free to live as they please, so long as it doesn’t impact others or their enviroment. Additionally, while other races within these lands are rare, given the enchantments and protections, those that choose to live there are granted the same rights as any other in all walks of life and are even allowed to convene at the great hall of Tarhain, even if they can never become the Dúnseal.
