Morenna is one of the Nine Ladies of the Aurethian faith, the divine Lady of Death. She governs death, funerals, burial, cremation, mourning, remembrance, cemeteries, and the proper treatment of the dead. Aurethians do not regard her as evil, nor do they generally treat mortality as a divine punishment. Her virtue is Reverence, accepting death's place in the order of life and treating the dead with dignity. Her sin is Desecration, deliberately stripping death or the dead of that dignity.
Morenna is traditionally depicted as an elderly woman of about seventy, tall and spare but not frail, with deep brown skin, pronounced cheekbones, nearly black eyes, and long silver-white hair braided low down her back. Her lined face is invariably calm. She wears a simple full-length white robe beneath a charcoal-grey mantle and no jewelry. Her hands are usually shown empty and open, palms upward. Unlike the other Ladies, she is almost never portrayed smiling or frowning; her defining expression is absolute composure.
