Vaedra is one of the Nine Ladies of the Aurethian faith, the divine Lady of War and Hunting. She governs soldiers, weapons, courage, martial skill, hunting, pursuit, physical danger, and the disciplined taking of life. Soldiers, hunters, officers, scouts, and others preparing to enter danger commonly invoke her. Her virtue is Courage, the willingness to face necessary danger despite fear. Her sin is Cravenness, abandoning a necessary struggle merely to preserve oneself.
Vaedra is depicted as a powerfully built woman in her early thirties, tall and broad-shouldered with visibly developed musculature, weather-darkened skin, dark green eyes, and thick copper-red hair braided tightly behind her head. A narrow scar crosses her left eyebrow, and smaller scars commonly mark her hands and forearms. She is usually shown in practical hunting or military dress rather than elaborate armor, carrying a long spear and wearing a short cloak that leaves her arms free.
