Selyra is one of the Nine Ladies of the Aurethian faith, the divine Lady of Lust. She governs sexual desire, seduction, erotic beauty, bodily pleasure, passion, and the appetites that draw people sexually toward one another. Aurethianism does not regard lust itself as immoral. Selyra's virtue is Mutuality, desire answered by desire and pleasure freely shared. Her sin is Violation, the taking of sexual or bodily intimacy without meaningful willingness from the other participant. In Ashara she is known by her older native name, Ashara, and occupies a far more elevated place in the separate Asharanic faith.
Selyra is traditionally depicted as a woman in her late twenties with a distinctly voluptuous figure, warm bronze complexion, long black curls, amber-brown eyes, heavy brows, full lips, and a broad expressive mouth. Her canonical likeness is sensual rather than delicate. She may be depicted nude or loosely draped according to context, and her hair is almost always unbound. Selyran art frequently portrays her looking directly at the viewer. Drinking cups, loosened garments, flowers, and vines are common secondary motifs.
