War

A struggle between two nations would be the most common idea of War, but the concept is much larger than that. It can be as simple as an internal conflict about a personal choice, it can be an argument between brothers, a compromise that must be made in a household. On a grand scale its armies clashing on the field of battle, but perhaps on an even grander scale it is two ideas struggling for a foothold in one's own mind.

Strife

Where war is the direct opposition of two ideas, be they people or concepts, Strife is the general concept of discord in one's world. A place of being unsettled due to forces unknown or unseen. This could be an opposing army laying siege to a city, or the sudden realization that something one once held to be the ultimate truth was a lie. It is something to push through to the other side and grow from.
