2025 looks to be an extremely exciting year for tabletop roleplaying games!

There are tons of awesome-looking TRPGs set to be released or made available beyond their crowdfunding audiences throughout this year, which means even more great settings for you to create worlds, stories and campaigns in. From gothic monster hunting to fantastical adventures in Discworld, here’s some of our most-anticipated tabletop RPGs coming in 2025.

The Cosmere Roleplaying Game

Brandon Sanderson is a popular fantasy author who is probably most well-known for his Stormlight Archive book series. An official tabletop RPG adaptation of his two most beloved series - including the aforementioned Stormlight Archive and the Mistborn books (coming in 2026) - is now on the way from Brotherwise Games, the publisher behind the Boss Monster card games.

This upcoming roleplaying game will enable fans of Sanderson’s novels to tell their own stories in his most popular universes, using an original gameplay system that includes a unique die designed to encourage drama. With the Cosmere RPG, you can create within the world of Roshar - the major setting for the Stormlight Archive - a fantasy universe in which people are able to use the power of Spren, or creatures from a parallel plane of existence - to achieve extraordinary things. Any fan of great worldbuilding will be able to admire what Sanderson has achieved, and add to it, with the Cosmere RPG.

Daggerheart

With direct input from the Dungeon Master and creator of Critical Role, Matthew Mercer, it’s no wonder that so many people are excited for the arrival of Daggerheart. Set to be published by Darrington Press - a game studio that has significant ties to Critical Role - Daggerheart is a fantasy TRPG that’s based on an entirely original gameplay system: one that’s designed to support full-length, narrative-heavy campaigns.

When creating their characters in Daggerheart, players choose from a collection of cards to determine key aspects of their identity - from their family background to the potential abilities they can tap into. Playing Daggerheart involves rolling two D12 - one representing hope and another fear - to decide the outcome of their actions. In Daggerheart, you’ll be able to create fantasy worlds and characters that greatly benefit from heaps of imagination and dedication, thereby being the perfect canvas for any hungry worldbuilder.

Starfinder: Second Edition

Starfinder is the science fiction flavoured twin to the popular fantasy tabletop roleplaying game Pathfinder, featuring spaceships and lazer guns instead of castles and swords. The original edition Of Starfinder was released back in 2017. Since then, the Second Edition of Pathfinder was released to overwhelming critical and commercial acclaim, so it’s unsurprising that the folks at Paizo are planning to launch a Starfinder: Second Edition to more closely align the game with Pathfinder 2E.

The world of Starfinder combines many tropes more commonly associated with fantasy - such as magic and elves - with that of scifi, like space battles and Glub Shitto-esque aliens, to form a unique clashing of the genres. An RPG universe with this much character is ideal for worldbuilding enthusiasts who don’t take themselves or their creations too seriously, and just want to make something fun from a collection of imaginative, wacky elements.

Terry Pratchett’s Discworld RPG: Adventures in Ankh-Morpork

A reimagining of the original tabletop RPG based on Terry Pratchett’s most famous book series, the Discworld RPG: Adventures in Ankh-Morpork will allow players to tell their own weird and wonderful stories within the titular fictional city. Playing the game sees the GM rolling a Narrativium die, which players will need to roll against to determine the outcome of their chosen action. Which die a player rolls, depends on how successfully they can convince the GM that the combination of their chosen action and character trait are sound.

Fans of the Discworld books undoubtedly already know what they’re in for when it comes to a TRPG adaptation. Pratchett’s Ankh-Morpork is a chaotic capital city that’s swamped in biting satire, containing two major halves - one rich and another poor - and an openly corrupt ruling elite. Worldbuilders who regularly include comedic elements in their work and have something to say with their creations, might find the ideal outlet with the upcoming Adventures in Ankh-Morpork.

Household Volume 2

Artwork for Household 2E (Two Little Mice)

Household is a TRPG in which players take the role of Littlings, or tiny fairytale-like creatures that are about the size of the average insect. Whilst the original edition revolved almost entirely around a large, long-abandoned house, this latest edition takes the adventures outside and into the estate’s overgrown gardens. Being as small as they are, the characters in Household have an even more enormous area to explore outdoors: filled with all sorts of dangerous creatures, obstacles and enemies.

The world of Household is a wonderfully unique one, combining the concept of oversized everyday objects with a beautifully illustrated Regency aesthetic. There’s something undeniably charming about a soldier brandishing their sword at a particularly menacing frog, and Household Volume 2 offers GMs and worldbuilders the tools they need to create more images and scenes exactly like that. If you’re looking for a really special TTRPG universe to worldbuild within, then Household Volume 2 is absolutely one worth watching.

The Between (New Edition)

Inspired by the likes of cult television show Penny Dreadful and gothic horror classics, The Between is a roleplaying game about hunting monsters. Released back in 2021, a new edition of The Between - alongside a brand-new campaign - is due to be launched later this year, adding various content like fresh character playbooks and challenges to overcome. Fans of classic horror tropes like werewolves and vampires will have a field day with The Between, as it’s essentially a Hammer Horror greatest hits RPG where you’re all Van Helsing.

The Between begins in Hargrave House, an institute that specializes in training its members to identify, stalk and kill all manner of terrifying creatures who hide in the shadows of London’s streets. Every player character in this RPG has a dark past they’re attempting to hide from, with GMs able to gradually unveil these tragic stories throughout their campaigns. If you love gothic horror and dream of creating your own monster stories, then The Between should be a tabletop RPG you keep an eye on.

Mythic Bastionland

Artwork for Mythic Bastionland (Chris McDowall)

Set in the fascinating universe of Chris McDowell’s Into the Odd and Electric Bastionland, Mythic Bastionland introduces players to the strange fantasy world that existed before those games. Mythic Bastionland takes place in a world shaped by legends and glory, with players taking the role of a young Knight Errand looking to make a name for themselves. There are 72 different knights for players to choose from in Mythic Bastionland, each with their own unique set of equipment, abilities and personal passions to pursue.

As with McDowell’s other RPGs, Mythic Bastionland is weird, melancholic and abstract, with players’ goals revolving around doing various deeds to gain glory. Maps are hex-based and can be filled with various opportunities for players to perform tasks, fight monsters, rescue people, find treasure ect… The rules system is very simple and streamlined, putting the focus on what the GM wants to create and how their players respond to it. Mythic Bastionland looks to be a great, open-world roleplaying game that’s ideal for worldbuilders to implement their own weird and impressive fantasy ideas in.
