Located on the north side of Ezael Island within the city of Sombus is the Carminus Universum ("Red Universe") also known as CU or CU University. It is widely regarded as the second-best source of arcane knowledge in Aurial after the College of Zaubarovia.
CU offers both arcane learning as well as various departments for the sciences and the arts. It was established in 3E087 by Emperor Sombra himself to serve as the primary educational college for the Crimson Empire.
One of the most prominent departments within CU is the Arcane Department where students pursue magical knowledge. Within the Arcane Department, there are many subjects such as Magical Technology, Runes and Sigils, Battle Tactics, and Physical Training. The Arcane Department also conducts an annual contest known as the game of Magetower. The game works much like capture the flag, with teams of different students competing against each other in different environmental settings.

Goals
The Carminus Universum's current objectives may be summarized as being to educate students, to undertake research, and to provide continuing education. It aims to maintain its position as one of the world's leading universities. CU also aims to create the best possible mages, scientists, soldiers, and citizens for the Crimson Empire and Abmarah as a whole.
Relationships
The Carminus Universum is allied to the College of Zaubarovia in the north and has many student exchange programs. The alliance between the two rival schools was further cemented after the The Great Aurian War during which the researchers of both institutions joined forces.
CU is also quite linked to the smaller Blackwood Institute of Science in Jasiv, with many incorrectly assuming BIS to be an external department of CU.
