“Under the Mother's Light”
Originally known as House Nethryna, the drow House Gaten is one of the Terrosi Great Houses. They control the duchy of Etabrück within the Kingdom of Zietaria.
Originally they ruled over the small town of Mukuyl in the Underdark. When it was taken over by dwarves, the family escaped down the Etasch River to Etabrück, where they slowly gained enough reputation to overthrow the ruling house.
The known members are:
Centuries ago, the drow family ruled a small Underdark town of Mukuyl. Led by Míririel of Mukuyl, they had ruled the town for many centuries. They were invaded by the Dwarven Kingdoms, and taken over. The dwarves renamed the town to Kuylhammer, as Míririel and her family fled to the surface, to the Etasch River.
Traveling down the river, they found shelter in the city of Etabrück, then in control of House Etaburg. Míririel provided council to the Etaburg, but soon came to understand the weak rule that they boasted. She took advantage of this, and along with her much longer lifespan, slowly got rid of the already dwindling trust the people had in House Etaburg. They took over and usurped the city of Etabrück, and became direct vassals of Zietaria.
She took a local Terrosi name in accordance with her new King, becoming Míririel von Gaten. After the death of Míririel von Gaten, her daughter Iôlwen von Gaten took over as Duchess of Etabrück. She has maintained a decently peaceful relationship with the Orc tribes of the grasslands, but has put down many Orc uprisings. House Gaten maintains the eastern border with the Crimson Empire, holding the Bridgefort of Etabrück.
