Shōgun Kagegojuu Iwale was the leader of the Cinoh Shogunate. He ascended the throne at age 31 in 3E433 and ruled until 3E452 when he was assassinated alongside his son Kagegojuu Miyoshi by Daimaō Damien and his own daughter Kagegojuu Aite.
He was known to rule justly but passively, and wanted to steer Cinoh into a more diplimatic direction instead of increasing their defenses against the Crimsons or the Lunars. This passiveness was criticized by his rivals and children alike.
Shōgun Iwale preferred to focus inwards on Cinohshima, trying to find a peaceful balance between all the noble clans. This ultimately lead to his downfall as the increasing popularity of the Akumakai Clan led to his assassination.
Iwale grew up within the capital city of Port Cinoh, and had a respectful relationship with his predecessor Kagegojuu Yoshihiro. He ascended to the throne at age 31 in 3E433 and had two children, Kagegojuu Aite and Kagegojuu Miyoshi.
In 3E442 during the events of Demon of the Carnival, 12 year old Aite was kidnapped by men working for Daimaō Niseki, the patriarch of the Akumakai Clan. Iwale hired a group of heroes to rescue her from the Akumakai, but failed to effectively punish Niseki in time before Niseki's son deposed him by himself.
Following this, Iwale wanted Aite to learn how to defend herself using magic. The rangda hag-kami, Baba Setani, convinced Iwale to let her teach Aite. Alongside Aite, one of her other students was Damien. She taught the both of them magic and dark arts, often taking them to the mystical Mt. Yukiba.

In 3E450, the the crew of the Phoenix Nebula visited Port Cinoh and met him. Dr. Baizo of the Crimson Empire was kidnapped by Aekai Clan patriarch Singularity, and Iwale secretly sent the Nebula crew to rescue him. The incident led to the unfortunate death of Singularity, creating a power vacuum that caused the Akumakai Clan to gain a lot more political power.
Two years later in 3E452, his daughter Aite hatched a plan with her now-lover Damien to depose Iwale and put Damien and herself in charge of the country owing to his popularity. They successfully got him assassinated, leading to Aite becoming acting-shōgun while her brother was still a minor. When the crew of the Nebula returned to Cinoh and tried to investigate Damien, she pretended to support them. While she never intended for her brother Miyoshi to die, she did not oppose Damien in his decision to murder him as well.
After Damien's death and Aite's defeat, the Nebula and the other powerful people present like Monk Kazeshi forced Aite to agree to a democratic council stripping her of many of her powers, essentially turning the country into a democratic monarchy.
3E402 - Iwale is born in Port Cinoh.
3E433 - He ascends to the throne and becomes Shōgun.
3E442 - During the events of Demon of the Carnival, a 12 year old Aite was kidnapped by Daimaō Niseki and rescued upon Iwale's request.
3E450 - During Act 1 of Curse of the Blood Sea, he meets the Phoenix Nebula and hires them to rescue Dr. Baizo from Singularity.
3E452 - At age 50, Aite colludes in a plan to assasinate Iwale and her brother, getting him killed and taking the throne for herself during Act 2 of Curse of the Blood Sea.
