Legal System

Law in Rose is enforced by Archmages and their emissaries. Authority is derived from magical prowess, not noble blood. Local Archmages may shape laws and taxes within their domain, but must remain loyal to the Queen and submit magical power to the Royal Pool. Archmages are appointed by the ruler, and upon elevation, the Archmage’s House gains immediate prominence within Rosian society. The title of Archmage is considered hereditary, passing to a designated heir, unless the Queen decrees otherwise.

Royal Pool

Archmages assume the role of city lords and ladies and are obligated to submit their magical energy to the Royal Pool of Magic, allowing the Queen almost absolute control over them.

Union Law

Weddings do not exist. Instead, partners undergo a ritual known as Dareym. Dareym forms a magical bond recognized by law. Permission is not required unless one party is a Mage of recognized title.

Inheritance

Only those with magical ability can inherit positions of power, land, or towers. Inheriting a title requires proof of magical education or sponsorship by an Archmage.

Religious Law

The Sentinel is the main Religion of Lothen. The Tree of Maldagar is considered the most sacred location of Rose. Following Norionor’s campaign, Rose was compelled to adopt the religion of the Final Light, establishing temples dedicated to its Pantheon. Since then, many Rosians have turned their worship toward the Final Light and the Veil. Despite the spread of this faith, the priesthood holds little social authority in Rose, aside from the respect granted by their magical power.

Military Duty

All able-bodied men may be conscripted during wartime. Criminals may also be conscripted.

Outlawry

Fleeing judgment or resisting the Archmages brands one an Outlaw. Outlaws are judged by the Archmages and are subject to their will. Criminals are displayed on magical wheels at city gates as a warning.

Trial System

Archmages and titled Mages are judged by the Queen herself. Commoners and Magelings are tried by the Archmages or Magelords.

Burial

Commoners are either buried in cemeteries or cremated on pyres. Mages and individuals of high standing are interred within glass sarcophagi known as Rodus.

Education

All Rosian citizens are assessed at an early age by Archmages and Magelords through a process called the Arcane Measure. Those deemed eligible are required to walk the Arcane Path, advancing to at least the rank of Initiate. Those found ineligible become Terrans, non-magical individuals who provide essential physical labor, serving as farmers, miners, builders, and craftsmen.

Druidic Order

Custodians of natural law and sacred rites. Druids mediate between the land and Rosian authority. They guide local customs, advise Archmages on ecological matters, and maintain balance between Rose and their Order.
