The history of Rose is inseparable from the history of magic itself. To understand the events that led to the rise of this great kingdom, one must journey back to the time of the Great War between the Gods. At the heart of Rose’s story stands Meriel Roserise. As one of the Eldan, she not only founded the kingdom but continues to rule it to this day. The turning point in Rose’s history came when Meriel, then a young witch of extraordinary promise, encountered Misandria Thiaspis, one of the four legendary wizards who had summoned Nedel into the world. That fateful meeting would set in motion a chain of events that shaped the destiny of Vitallia.
Following the celestial cataclysm known as the Battle of the Gods, a young witch named Meriel Roserise took residence near the mystical Tree of Maldagar. Surrounded by a growing circle of devoted students and followers, Meriel dedicated herself to protecting the Tree, which she believed to be far more than a sacred place, it was a living relic, a powerful entity gifted to mortals by the Great Sentinel itself, vital to Vitallia’s healing.
Her unwavering conviction inspired a movement. Yet the Tree’s proximity to the vast Crater brought constant danger. Twisted creatures, born of the Crater’s chaotic energies, roamed the land in search of power. Despite these threats, Meriel’s magic deepened, and her resolve never wavered. In time, she became known as the Lady of the Tree, and protector of the world’s renewal.
With support from the kingdom of Goliath and aided by the Gargoyles, Meriel was granted passage into the forbidden territory of The Cell. Her journey brought her to the black river Erel, where she met the dying Misandria, heavily pregnant with Nedel’s children. Knowing her end was near, Misandria entrusted Meriel with the Books of First Magic, written by her and the first Eldan. Meriel now bore a heavy burden, to protect the world from the horrors of the Crater and atone for the failures brought upon it by the gods and their agents.
Meriel returned to the lands surrounding the Tree and formally founded the Kingdom of Rose, a realm built on magical advancement. From its inception, Rose served as a beacon for the arcane, housing scholars, spellcasters, and guardians who would defend the world from the threats buried beneath the Crater.
A mysterious vampire-led faction known as the Sacred Fire Order, commanded by Larev Kreyn, established a stronghold near Rose’s borders. While initially viewed as a threat, they were granted sanctuary, introducing political intrigue and a new layer of complexity to Rose’s internal affairs. The faction requested autonomy, in exchange for aid from its powerful, private army. After consideration, Rose accepted the deal.
Rose’s reputation as the Capital of Magic was cemented when its finest mages created Rodum, a nearly invisible magical barrier protecting the capital of the kingdom. This shimmering veil, only visible in the reflection of the divine Pantheon’s light, increased the defenses of Rose’s capital city.
No one knows exactly how Vaaron came to be. Some sages claim that chaotic surges of stray magic gave rise to a golem of colossal size and unimaginable power. When the creature emerged, the scholars of Rose responded by constructing Paraurum, a vast tomb forged of marble and sealed with countless runes and enchantments. There, Vaaron was entombed alive, bound beneath layers of arcane wards, too powerful to destroy, yet too dangerous to set free.
Rose was invaded by King Norionor Whiteshield of Lothen. The Queen was forced to surrender, leading to the signing of the Treaty of Thorns. Although independence was regained after Norionor’s death, the treaty began an uneasy partnership between the two kingdoms. Several Rosian cities were renamed, Lothenian religion was partially established, population exchanges occured and Rose was forced to establish a military and trade relation with Lothen that stands to this day.
Disaster struck when Daenum Arum, a rogue wizard, stole the Books of First Magic. His assault devastated the capital, killing half its citizens in a massacre remembered as the Night of the Legion. In response, a local hero known as Anhkhrafel Theodrum led a daring mission to retrieve the stolen texts. Theodrum succeeded but became an undead during the mission and earned a reputation as the Vampire Knight.
In 1204 AC, the Kingdom of Rose received long-awaited recognition from Lothen when King Meleborn Whiteshield lifted the kingdom’s long-standing ban on magic. This came as reparation for the era of the Runik Movement, during which magic-users were hunted across the continent. King Meleborn, recognizing the failures of his predecessors, proposed a new accord, the Treaty of the Root. This time, Lothen sent not soldiers, but thousands of builders, healers, and scholars to help restore the cities and protect Rosian lands. Many were descendants of exiles or former enemies, seeking redemption or a new life.
In the waning years of the Fourth Age, Rose joined the united effort to confront Nedel in the eastern continent of Exotia. The Queen personally answered the call of the Four Daughters, assembling an army to defend Vitallia from the impending chaos.
An ancient threat resurfaced within the Crater of the Sentinel. Taarum Thiaspis, one of the four wizards who had summoned Nedel into the world, ascended to divinity and claimed great power in his domain beneath the Crater. In response, Meriel, alongside several powerful allies, confronted him in a deadly conflict known as the Battle of Hellmouth. During Meriel’s absence following the battle, Archmage Kadas Even seized the opportunity to usurp the throne by taking control of the Pool of Power. His reign was brief. Upon her return, Queen Meriel deposed the Usurper and reclaimed her rightful place, restoring order and balance to the kingdom.
Rose remains one of the most powerful kingdoms in Vitallia, its strength rooted in the arcane arts, the mastery of its mages, and the vast troves of knowledge they have uncovered. The kingdom continues to play a vital role in the world, offering protection against threats emerging from the Crater, trading in spellbooks and arcane wares, and spreading magical knowledge across the realm. To guard against growing dangers, Queen Meriel has established a strict regime focused on the kingdom’s defense and internal stability. The recent rebellion caused deep divisions among the noble houses, and Meriel was forced to carefully punish those who supported the Usurper, whether by will or coercion.
Among the greatest threats Rose still faces is the rebel faction known as the Wizards of Altheda. They have evolved into an insurgent force led by a rogue scion of House Otres, one of the kingdom’s most prominent archmage lineages. The Altheda denounce Meriel’s rule, claiming that a single immortal sovereign is no better than tyranny. Their cause has quietly gained support among certain Rosian families, turning the conflict into a dangerous and costly civil struggle.
Even so, the majority of Rosians still see Meriel Roserise as the rightful and most capable ruler of the Magocracy, from its founding, to whatever end may come.
