Episode 58: Tower of the Arcanium | Roll Seekers | Light of Tyve Campaign, Episode 58

Episode 58 Glossary

Characters

  • Felsis: An Arcanium wizard who guides the Harbingers through the tower and into its inner sanctum. His fireball destroys the glass golem after it reaches the lower chamber.

  • Ariandre: A metaphysical healer within the Arcanium. She can perceive and repair fractures in reality and helps Vyr project herself into the realm of the Crystalline Order.

  • Horatio Vinvestler: The masked master of the Arcanium and a former member of the Siphon Order. His physical body is confined to a life-sustaining casket, but he moves through the world by projecting alternate forms across space and time.

  • Slip: Horatio's halfling scribe and chronicler. He records the Harbingers' story after studying under the bard Horagrin the Amazing.

  • Vyr: Enters a liminal mirror realm with Ariandre's assistance to negotiate with the Crystalline Order. Cellus intervenes when the encounter turns against her.

  • Nixon: Returns when the mirrors shatter, replacing Sabu within the Harbingers' present reality. The group recovers memories of traveling with Nixon as well as memories of his earlier erasure.

  • Bjorn: Shoves the glass golem from the stairway and falls with it before Torrin rescues him. He is later trapped inside its molten remains and freed after the battle.

  • Torrin: Is acknowledged by a figure within the mirrors, rescues Bjorn with wings formed from glass, and continues carrying the compass linked to the Crystallic.

Gods and Religion

  • Sethis: The Goddess of Twilight and the Harbingers' strongest known connection to the Shadowed Path through the mountains.

  • Kypheron: The dragon power whose awakening threatens Tyve. Horatio warns that the released dragons will continue growing stronger and that their eventual price will come due.

Organizations and Societies

  • Harbingers of Light: Enter the Arcanium seeking answers and a Crystallic fragment. They reject Horatio's offer to abandon their wider struggle and instead continue pursuing the restoration of the Ithelion.

  • The Arcanium: A secret research organization led by Horatio. Its original purpose included finding the heir of the Vey, and its hidden tower now occupies a structure created by the Crystalline Order.

  • Crystalline Order: An ancient and powerful order of wizards that protects a secret connected to the green eyes. The tower recognizes their authority and turns against the Harbingers when Nixon's erased existence is restored.

  • Siphon Order: An ancient magical order once led by Zyltrix. Horatio, Draxus Cale, Mathias Ephelthine, and Angela Thedon were among the figures connected to it before its members became divided within Tyve.

  • The Chain: The army advancing toward Keph. Horatio warns that its arrival will force the Harbingers to choose between defending the keep and pursuing the artifacts needed to confront Tyve's greater threats.

Creatures and Nature

  • Cellus: An immense crystalline dragon encountered beyond the Crystalline Order's realm. Cellus saves Vyr from the failed projection and declares that her story is not finished.

  • Glass Golem: A regenerating creature formed from the shattered mirrors within the tower. It pursues the Harbingers down the spiral stairway and survives a long fall before Felsis melts it with a fireball.

  • Awakened Dragons: Ancient dragons released back into Tyve. Horatio warns that their growing strength is reducing the time available to the Harbingers.

Items and Technology

  • Crystallic: A shattered artifact linked to Torrin and the restoration of the Ithelion. Horatio believes it is the proper means of opening the Dios Ostium and offers the Harbingers safety in exchange for its pieces.

  • Torrin's Compass: A device connected to the Crystallic. It points toward another fragment somewhere within or near the Arcanium tower.

  • Oblivion Orb: A device offered by Horatio that can remove the Harbingers' memories of the green eyes. It attacks the mind and may erase unrelated memories from anyone unable to resist it.

  • Dark Scepter: The dangerous artifact carried by Normandy. Horatio senses its hunger and warns that it could consume a weaker mind or become especially dangerous if attached to him.

  • Horatio's Casket: The apparatus sustaining Horatio's ancient physical body. Tubes, magic, and mechanical devices keep him alive while his projected identities move beyond the chamber.

Magic and Cosmology

  • Conflicting Realities: The Harbingers remember two versions of their recent journey after Nixon returns: one containing Nixon and another containing Sabu. Both histories remain present in their minds.

  • Memory Erasure: The Crystalline Order's method of suppressing knowledge of the green eyes. Horatio's Oblivion Orb offers a more controlled version, though using it risks permanent damage.

  • Horatio's Projection: Magic allowing Horatio to manifest alternate bodies and identities beyond the casket containing his physical form. He can extend these projections across distance and possibly across time.

  • Light of the Ithelion: The power the Harbingers intend to restore within Tyve. Horatio connects it to the Crystallic, the Vey, and the route toward the island's center.

  • Shadowed Path: A concealed route through the mountains that Horatio cannot observe. Sethis is the Harbingers' strongest known connection to finding it.

Locations and Realms

  • Arcanium Tower: A white tower hidden in the Sheer Peaks above the Aurorius Falls. The Arcanium occupies its inner sanctum, but the structure itself belongs to the much older Crystalline Order.

  • Inner Sanctum: The protected portion of the tower containing the Arcanium's research chambers, living quarters, Horatio's casket, and the place where Ariandre conducts metaphysical work.

  • Aurorius Falls: The waterfall region below the Arcanium tower. Danimal remains outside studying how its water might be carried to Keph.

  • Dios Ostium: A sealed passage leading toward the center of Tyve. Horatio believes the Crystallic can open it as intended, while Draxus Cale seeks to breach it through blood and might.

  • Keph: The keep threatened by the approaching Chain. The Harbingers send a warning so its defenders can prepare for a siege.

  • Realm of the Wolf King: A prosperous northeastern land beyond the Harbingers' known map. Horatio offers it as a refuge if Torrin gives up the Crystallic.

  • Cellus's Dream Realm: A cosmic realm reached after Vyr is pulled away from the Crystalline Order. Her passage reveals an impossible bridge, a chained city, fields of thorns, and a precipice overlooking the stars.

History and Lore

  • Nixon's Return: The destruction of the tower's mirrors restores Nixon to the group and returns memories that had been removed with him, creating two simultaneous versions of the Harbingers' past.

  • Horatio's Confinement: Horatio has remained physically trapped within Tyve for centuries. His casket and projections allow him to survive and influence events without truly leaving the tower.

  • Search for the Heir of the Vey: Horatio identifies finding the Veyan heir as one of the Arcanium's foundational purposes. He believes Torrin's arrival within Tyve was the result of long preparation rather than chance.
