Episode 39: The Felkeep: Drag'Dah | Roll Seekers | Light of Tyve Campaign, Episode 39

Episode 39 Glossary

Characters

  • Bjorn: Survives beneath the Felrune Bridge, rejects the rage that defined his barbarian life, and begins an unknown transformation after surrendering Kypheron's flame to the golden root.

  • Magda Navaa: Mystical guardian who appears as a young woman, speaks with unseen sisters, and guides Bjorn to a permanent choice between rage and temperance.

  • Torrin: Recognizes Drag'Dah's Veyan and Sethian heritage, opens the keep with the Crystallic, and restores Rue by reuniting his divided soul.

  • Rue: Lightless companion attached to Torrin's shadow. He discovers his Shadowless body within Drag'Dah and becomes a living Veyan child when the Crystallic reunites them.

  • Whisper: Uses the Felrune tower's failing ballista to cripple the undead rook and send it into the chasm.

  • Kiera: Continues the forbidden crossing after Bjorn's fall and helps the party search Drag'Dah for the wisdom promised by the pilgrimage.

  • Rue's Mother: Veyan woman imprisoned within the sealed urn. She says she was deceived by the promise of twilight and entrusts her son to Torrin.

Gods and Religion

  • Kypheron: Dragon god whose preserved fire burns out of Bjorn when he touches the golden root.

  • Sethis: Goddess of twilight whose early Veyan followers built the cathedral at Drag'Dah and attempted to become beings of both light and shadow.

  • Pludex: Dragon god of swamps and deep places, represented by the bone-tipped silver pendant found upon a dead pilgrim.

  • The Three Guardians: Magda and two unseen sisters who judge Bjorn at a crossroads and speak through shifting voices and the wind.

Organizations and Societies

  • Dregda Moor: Nornian mystics who later occupied Drag'Dah. Their dead lie behind protective wards after calling something from the darkness.

  • Sethian Order: Veyan religious tradition that built cathedrals around the passage between light, darkness, and twilight.

  • Harbingers of Light: Cross the bridge despite the Dregda Moor's warning, destroy the Felrune Rook, and enter Drag'Dah in search of aid for Helena.

  • The Five: Unidentified figures who harvested five pieces from the golden root, one of which became Helvegen's haft.

Creatures and Nature

  • Felrune Rook: Enormous undead bird that hunts the party across the bridge. Whisper's ballista shot cripples it and causes its final fall.

  • Shadowless: Beings composed entirely of supernatural light because their shadows were separated from them. One attacks Bjorn in Drag'Dah's dining room.

  • Lightless: Beings composed entirely of shadow because their light was removed. Rue has existed in this divided state within Torrin's shadow.

  • Golden Root: Exposed portion of a colossal upside-down tree beneath the plateau. It recoils against Kypheron's fire and bears five ancient harvesting scars.

  • Frozen Embryo: Eyeless, aquatic creature with pincers and long claws preserved alive within the ice invading Drag'Dah's kitchen.

Items and Technology

  • Helvegen: Bjorn's all-blade, whose haft was harvested from the golden root. After Bjorn's trial, it sheds golden light whenever held.

  • Felrune Ballista: Decaying siege weapon atop the bridge tower. Its only bolt destroys the rook's wing even as the ballista explodes.

  • Torrin's Compass: Veyan device whose beam points directly into Drag'Dah.

  • Crystallic Shard: Veyan crystal that opens the Felkeep, joins Rue's two halves, and briefly restores erased Veyan art and architecture.

  • Sealed Urn: Vessel containing Rue's mother and a preserved fragment of Drag'Dah's lost reality.

  • Ancient Barbarian Papers: Writings recovered by Bjorn from a tower resident whose hand had grown into a branch.

Magic and Cosmology

  • The Crossroads Choice: Permanent trial in which Bjorn abandons rage and the identity built around it to pursue temperance and transformation.

  • Kypheron's Conflagration: Fire released from Bjorn into the golden root, burning away his barbarian power and melting the ice that conceals Drag'Dah.

  • Prism Chamber Division: Failed Sethian method intended to create twilight beings. It instead divided worshipers into Lightless and Shadowless halves.

  • Perpetual Twilight: State of imprisonment endured by Rue's mother and others harmed by the failed transformation.

  • Remembered Bond: Mutual connection created when Rue becomes whole. Torrin and Rue preserve one another through shared memory.

  • Localized Veyan Restoration: Ripple of magic from the Crystallic that restores erased art, furnishings, and architecture within a limited circle.

Locations and Realms

  • Felrune Tower: Fortification at the midpoint of the bridge, extending from the summit into the mire far below.

  • Magda's Refuge: Autumnal pocket of safety beneath the plateau where the young guardian heals and tests Bjorn.

  • Drag'Dah: Fallen capital associated with the Dregda Moor, built over an older Veyan bastion and frozen within the Veng'namar Plateau.

  • The Felkeep: Black, cathedral-like fortress forming the surviving heart of Drag'Dah.

  • Felkeep Crypts: Hidden burial chambers reached by pulling a candelabra inside the keep.

  • The Sealed Veyan Chamber: Flower-marked room containing Rue's Shadowless body and the urn that holds his mother.

History and Lore

  • Harvest of the Five Weapons: Five pieces were cut from the golden root long ago. Helvegen preserves one, while the identities and purposes of the other four remain unknown.

  • Veyan Conversion to Sethis: Sethis introduced death to an otherwise deathless people, and her banished followers constructed twilight cathedrals throughout Tyve.

  • The Failed Twilight Transformation: Devout Sethians sought union with their goddess through prism technology but divided their souls into opposing forms.

  • Dregda Moor Occupation: The Dregda Moor entered the abandoned Veyan fortress after its original decline and attempted to ward themselves against a summoned darkness.

  • Erasure of Veyan Culture: Drag'Dah's canvases, weapons, writings, and other works remain physically present but blank or absent until the Crystallic restores a small area.

  • Magda's Remnant: The young guardian and her cottage appear to be a preserved impression left behind rather than a journey into the past.
