Characters

• Whisper: Breaks the amulet controlling Mathias, confronts the Tangled One within her own domain, and refuses to sacrifice his identity to vengeance or godhood. He returns to Keph through the Tangled One's portal pool.

• Mathias Ephelthine: Regains his suppressed power when Whisper destroys the amulet. He attacks the Tangled One, reveals green eyes and a more human form, threatens to make her forgotten, and later enters the Arcanium to confront Horatio.

• Graham: Reunites with Whisper at the Twilight Temple. She reveals that Magna Neva charged her with protecting Whisper and ending his life if his curse transformed him into something evil.

• Torin: Is possessed by a child spirit during the battle outside Keph but expels it. He later rescues Whisper from the reservoir, helps repair the Tear, and receives Sethis's offer of a dark route around the Dios Ostium.

• Vyr: Reaches the center of the storm with Whisper and uses blood-enhanced magic to hold the Tangled One in place while Whisper destroys Mathias's amulet.

• Ernan: Is protected from possession but nearly killed by the Tangled One's undead. After Whisper returns, he insists that they find a way to finish the Tangled One together.

• Ilk: Reads the broken amulet's history, confirms that it suppressed Mathias's power, and helps repair the damaged portal at Keph.

• Horatio Vinvestler: Relies upon protections that once prevented Mathias from entering the Arcanium. Mathias appears before him after the amulet is broken and claims those protections no longer apply.

Gods and Religion

• Callus: The dragon god of dreams. Zandra explains that dragon gods such as Callus exist independently of worship and remember themselves even when others forget them.

• Sethis: Appears to Torin as an apparition of shadow and light. She offers to open a dark route around the Dios Ostium for two days, but her motives and the source guiding her acolytes remain uncertain.

• The Tangled One: An ascended goddess who attacks Keph through storm, fog, undead spirits, and the Charybden. After her amulet is broken, she is wounded and weakened but remains beyond the killing power of Whisper's mortal blades.

Organizations and Societies

• Blood Sorcerers: Aeris and Arthas remove Nixon from the Charybden battle, then take him through a blood-sealed door into a hidden library within Keph. Their loyalties remain uncertain.

• Crystalline Order: An order connected to erasure and balance. Zandra calls it a necessary evil, while the Harbingers question how Mathias's threat to make the Tangled One forgotten may relate to the Order's powers.

• Knights of Ithelias: Defend Keph, open the gates for the Harbingers, and search the cleared battlefield after the Tangled One disappears.

• The Chain: Continues advancing toward Keph while the Harbingers recover from the Tangled One's attack. One remaining Crystallic fragment points toward its fortress.

• The Vey: The forgotten people whose hidden treasure cave is revealed by the Twilight Temple's map. An ancient guardian dragon protects the Veyan objects within it.

Creatures and Nature

• Argylus: A fallen angelic being imprisoned within glass at the Twilight Temple. The Harbingers' companionship allows one Argylus to regain its light briefly, bless the group, and dissolve into starlight.

• Charybden: The creature beneath Keph whose attack damages the passage to Ilk. It recedes into the reservoir before the Harbingers confront the Tangled One outside.

• Guardian Dragon: An ancient dragon trained by the Vey to protect their treasure cave. It can resist Kypheron's call for a time, but not indefinitely.

• The Tangled One's Undead: Ghost children, ghasts, and a more powerful wraith-like servant concealed within the fog. They possess, paralyze, terrify, and drain the Harbingers until Mathias's attack clears the battlefield.

Items and Technology

• Crystallic: A shattered artifact with two fragments still missing at the end of the episode. Torin's compass points toward one fragment beyond the known map and another inside the Chained Fortress.

• Mathias's Amulet: An anchor-shaped object that bound Mathias to the Tangled One and suppressed his power. Whisper destroys it, restoring Mathias's freedom and strength.

• The Tear: The damaged portal at Keph. Ilk and the Harbingers repair it by crystallizing the sand worked into its fractured structure.

• Torin's Compass: A device that produces separate beams toward missing Crystallic fragments. It identifies one direction west by southwest and another toward the Chained Fortress.

Magic and Cosmology

• Argylus Fall and Restoration: Argylus embody extremes of isolation and togetherness. Solitude can cause them to fall, while genuine camaraderie can return one briefly to the light of creation.

• Divine Death: Mortal weapons can wound an ascended god but cannot necessarily kill one. Zandra states that gods can be killed by other gods or by weapons carrying divine power.

• Divine Memory: Dragon gods exist independently of belief and cannot be erased through ordinary forgetting because they remember themselves.

• Erasure and Forgetting: Mathias claims he can erase the Tangled One but chooses instead to make her forgotten. The extent and consequences of this power are not yet known.

Locations and Realms

• Arcanium: Horatio's tower and prison complex. Mathias enters it after regaining his power and claims that its protection can no longer banish him.

• Chained Fortress: The Chain's stronghold and the destination indicated by one of the two remaining Crystallic beams.

• Dios Ostium: The sealed passage Sethis offers to circumvent through a dark route lasting forty-eight hours.

• Keph: The keep attacked by the Tangled One's storm, fog, undead, and Charybden while the Chain continues its approach.

• Tangled One's Domain: A cavernous, sea-worn realm containing the weakened goddess, a coral portal pool, and passages extending beyond her eroded throne.

• Twilight Temple: The sanctuary where Whisper reunites with Graham, an Argylus returns briefly to the light, and the Harbingers use the map to locate Veyan treasure.

• Veyan Treasure Cave: A hidden cavern near the mountains and the territory of the Watchers. It contains valuable Veyan objects guarded by an ancient dragon.

History and Lore

• Binding of Mathias: The Tangled One's order bound Mathias through an ancient amulet and suppressed his power. Ilk's reading suggests the binding began in the distant past and that Mathias was the amulet's only captive.

• Restoration of the Argylus: The reunion of Whisper and Graham, together with the Harbingers' companionship, allows a fallen Argylus to return briefly to the light of creation and bless the group.

• Unbinding of Mathias: Whisper destroys the Tangled One's amulet, freeing Mathias and restoring the power he immediately turns against his former captor.
