Bjorn: Returns to the Harbingers with Bjork and asks the Watcher for another shrike. He plants flowers from Norn near the Twilight Temple and attempts to begin teaching his son about the wider world.
Bjork: Bjorn's newly discovered son. He enters the portal to Teldoroth, barely returns before it closes, and receives a shrike from the Watcher before joining the Harbingers' southern journey.
Octelgaron: The Watcher who identifies himself as a High Elf of Teldoroth twisted by Tyve's darkness. He shows the Harbingers his lost homeland and reveals three possible paths through the Dios Ostium.
Normandy Borthal: First enters the portal to Teldoroth. Emrys warns him to retreat, and Normandy later uses Twilight Sanctuary to free the shrikes from the willow's maddening whispers.
Helena: Follows Bjork into the Teldoroth portal and persuades him to return. She later helps Vyr hunt so that Vyr will not turn her growing hunger toward the villagers.
Vyr: Confesses that her increasing soul magic has become a physical compulsion. She drains a swamp creature's soul, witnesses it rise again, and speaks with the consciousness within the Whispering One.
Snake Eye: Leads the pirates who conquer the Village of the Exiles while searching for Zandra. He agrees to remain behind and help repair the settlement.
Trash King: A goblin from Adra and leader of the Trash Seekers. He helps conquer the village, seeks the Ithelion's light to heal Lyra, and directs Torin to a Crystallic fragment held by Soggy Dan.
Gord: Chief of the Village of the Exiles. Torin cures the Lythans' curse transforming his body, and Gord provides information about his people's trade with the Plague Swamps.
Simothy: A former ferryman whose journey into the swamp left him blind and traumatized. He remembers voices, unnatural hands, visions, and a masked face before returning with people previously lost in the wetlands.
Soggy Dan: A pirate entrusted with a carved stone by Trash King. The object proves to be a Crystallic fragment that Soggy Dan has been using as a fingernail file.
Zandra: The missing divine goblin sought by the Harbingers and pirates. The consciousness within the Whispering One claims that Zandra belongs to the tree.
Kypheron: The ancient dragon god associated with Mount Kyphos and the enormous dragon remains scattered through the southern swamps.
Pludex: A swamp god invoked by the villagers. Bjork senses that Pludex is absent from the Plague Swamps and describes the region as a sewer rather than a natural wetland.
The Ithelion: The divine light sought by Trash King as the only power he believes can heal Lyra.
Harbingers of Light: Investigate the Watcher's tower, restore several victims in the Village of the Exiles, recover another Crystallic fragment, and enter the territory of the Whispering One.
Watchers: People of Teldoroth stranded and twisted within Tyve. Octelgaron operates the tower at Karn and cannot use its immense portal to return home.
Pirates: Snake Eye's followers. They seize the Village of the Exiles with unnecessary violence before the Harbingers order them to repair the damage and protect its people.
Trash Seekers: Trash King's band of displaced followers. They join the pirates in conquering the village and remain behind as a peacekeeping force.
Lythans: Plague artists living within the southern swamp. They trade for supplies, blind some ferrymen who reach them, manipulate souls, and return selected people who were lost in the wetlands.
Shrikes: Winged mounts used by the Harbingers to cross Tyve. The Watcher grants one to Bjork, and Normandy saves the flock when the Whispering One's voices drive them into a fall.
Whispering One: An immense willow hundreds of feet tall at the heart of the Plague Swamps. Its consciousness speaks through mental whispers, claims Zandra, and appears connected to the Lythans' soul experiments.
Dragon Bones: Near-adamantine remains of innumerable ancient dragons scattered across the Bone Fields. Their scale preserves evidence of the catastrophic wars once fought in the region.
Soulless Swamp Beast: An elk-like animal with finned sides hunted by Helena and Vyr. It rises and walks away after Vyr drains its soul and leaves it dead.
Crystallic Fragment: A carved stone held by Soggy Dan and used as a fingernail file. Torin recognizes it and joins it to the other recovered pieces of the Crystallic.
Torin's Compass: Continues pointing toward Aurorius Falls after the new fragment is added, suggesting that another piece or related object remains there.
Skjold's Helm: The helm Bjorn recovered through the chief's journey. Torin confirms that it has no inherent magical properties, though Bjorn maintains that its spiritual meaning remains important.
Watcher's Cage: A suspended metal lift within Karn that carries the Harbingers through the clouds to the Teldoroth gateway.
Teldoroth Gateway: A crystal portal powered by the Watcher's tower. It tears through layers of magical separation to reach Teldoroth but offers no safe return for those who remain beyond it.
Astral Cord: A severed cord once found by Trash King and given to Vyr. Emrys identifies it as the remnant of an astral projection.
Teldoroth's Separation: Travelers entering Teldoroth become star-filled and partly incorporeal. Emrys warns that the barriers surrounding it can prevent them from ever returning to Tyve.
Three Paths Through the Dios Ostium: Octelgaron foresees three possibilities: overwhelming the door with power, using a key bound to blood and heart, or following a route wrapped in shadow after surrendering one's light.
Soul Manipulation: The Lythans stretch and alter mortal souls into string-like conduits capable of holding another light. Torin restores one child by separating the foreign presence from his soul.
Vyr's Soul Hunger: Vyr's growing mastery of soul magic creates an escalating need to drain living beings, strong enough that she fears turning upon people if she does not feed it.
The Willow's Whispers: Mental voices projected by the Whispering One. They can communicate with Vyr, overwhelm the shrikes, and stop when the Harbingers reach the ground.
Deathless Swamp: The diseased wetlands can animate a creature after its soul has been removed, suggesting that death and life no longer follow their natural cycle there.
Karn: The Watcher's immense tower and the Harbingers' northern waypoint. Its highest chamber contains the gateway to Teldoroth.
Teldoroth: A lost mountainous civilization separated behind powerful magical barriers. Its people built elegant structures into the mountains, but its stranded Watchers cannot return.
Village of the Exiles: A tribal settlement conquered and partially burned by the pirates and Trash Seekers. Its people survive by trading provisions with the Lythans.
Plague Swamps: Vast southern wetlands corrupted by soul magic, unnatural resurrection, and the Whispering One's influence.
Slyphash: The ancient Lythan region and destination toward which the Harbingers fly in search of Zandra and the Whispering One.
Mount Kyphos: A solitary mountain resembling the open jaws of an immense dragon. Bjork honors Kypheron while passing it.
Dar-Nagosh: A fortified black-stone city built at the base of Mount Kyphos.
Bone Fields: A region of the swamp filled with the nearly indestructible skeletons of dragons killed during an ancient conflict.
Loss of Teldoroth: Teldoroth was separated from the wider world by a power Octelgaron refuses to name. Even the Watchers' greatest gateway cannot provide a safe return.
Conquest of the Village of the Exiles: Snake Eye and Trash King seize the settlement while searching for Zandra. Their victory kills several defenders and leaves the Harbingers responsible for repairing relations with the survivors.
Trash King's Arrival in Tyve: Trash King claims that he reunited duplicated versions of Adra's High Tower, released its trapped magical confluence, and survived the destruction when Lyra's love drew him back.
Recovery of Another Crystallic Fragment: Torin discovers that the carved object held by Soggy Dan is part of the Crystallic and adds it to the growing artifact.
