In Cathringia, religion is a battleground between the heart and the law. While the white marble cathedrals of Clerasy stand in every major city—a lingering shadow of the Empire of Poseia—the ancient roots of the Bagmsfulk still hold the true loyalty of the people.

I. The Two Faiths

The Church of Clerasy

  • Primary Deity: Clērātas (The Divine Mother)

  • Status: Clerasy was "forced" upon the Cathringian tribes during the occupation of the Empire of Poseia. It is the religion of the law, the courts, and the aristocracy.

  • Practice: In Cathringia, Clerasy is practised with a cold, almost resentful precision. The rituals are performed perfectly to satisfy the Church in Auresia, but they often lack the romantic warmth found in Reynesse.

The Bagmsfulk

  • Focus: Survival, Primal Strength, and the Cycle of the Wild.

  • Status: These arethe rival deities who gathered a following among the tribes long before they reached Poseia. While the Church labels them "primordial" or "lesser," the Cathringians see them as the only gods who truly understand the struggle of Cathringia.

II. Religious Practice & Subversion

Cathringia projects an image of Clerical piety to avoid conflict with Auresia, but the reality is far more syncretic.

  • The Hidden Shrines: It is common for a Cathringian manor to have a statue of Clērātas in the foyer for visitors to see, while a hidden room in the cellar or a stone in the backyard is dedicated to Gadaric or Teiws.

  • The Vow of the Sword: When a Cathringian makes a truly binding oath, they do not swear it on a holy book of Clerasy. They swear it while on the steel of a blade, invoking Teiws.
