Overview

Enchanting is the act of creating an item that has a magical ability attached to it. In the Realm of Liminalis LARP, this is achieved by taking specified quantities of in-game resources and exchanging them for a laminated tag that you attach to an item that can use the enchantment (a physical representation or phys rep). This could be a sword, an article of clothing, jewelry, an instrument, etc. based on the type of enchantment and what its intended use is.

How to Use an Enchanted Item

Enchanted Items can be used in a multitude of ways and have many rules on how they can be used. Since this topic is extensive, please see the How to Use Enchanted Items tab at the top of this page to learn more about how these special items are used, how to attune to them, how many you can use at one time, etc.

Without the Aurasense ritual, only Enchanters can read Enchanted item tags found in the wild.

Mechanics of Creating an Enchanting Item

To create an Enchanted item, you must have both the resources needed to create that item and know the formula for that item. There will be several types of resources for you to collect in the game to make Enchanted items with. Your character gains knowledge of different Enchanted Item lists via the Enchanting Skill tree. The more Character Points (CP) you spend in Enchanting, the more lists or higher level lists your character knows.

The formula for a Enchanted Item will have the list of resources required to make that item, the crafting time, the time reduction provided by Group Crafting, and the description of what the item's properties are. Please see the Enchanted Items lists to see examples of formulas.

In addition, there are a couple of different attributes and abilities you gain as an Enchanter that will help you craft items but also limit the number of items you can make. One such attribute is Tinkering Fatigue.

Tinkering Fatigue:

Tinkering Fatigue is how much in game energy you can expend to craft an item and is associated with the number of items you can craft in a day (1 point of Tinkering Fatigue = 1 enchanted item). Tinkering fatigue does not compound, so if you do not create an item on one day, you can't create 2 the next day.

If you are participating in Group Crafting, the person leading the Group Crafting is the one who will take the Tinkering Fatigue.

A second ability you get when becoming an Enchanter is the ability to perform Group Crafting. Group Crafting allows multiple Enchanters to work together on a single item, thus allowing that item to be crafted quicker than if one Enchanter was crafting it alone. Please see the next section to learn how Group Crafting works.

How to Create an Enchanted Item

Below is a simple step by step guide on how to make an Enchanted Item and how to perform Group Crafting. If you want more information about the RP requirements, please see the section below on The Workshop.

Steps for Enchanting:

  1. Select the item you are creating from a list you know

  2. Gather the required resources for your item

  3. Complete 30 minutes of RP at the Workshop

  4. Fill out the Enchanted Item Creation Form (EICF) to give to Crossroads. The Group Crafting section on form is only filled out as needed.

  5. Turn in the resources and completed EICF to Crossroads

  6. Receive your item tag to attach to the appropriate phys rep after crafting time is complete (ex. 4 hours, overnight, downtime, etc.)

Group Crafting:

  • Must be led by the person crafting the item

  • Number of enchanters participating in Group Casting and complexity of item being crafted determines overall reduction in crafting time

  • Complete 30 minutes of RP in the Workshop

  • Fill out Group Crafting section of the EICF and turn in to Crossroads along with the required resources for the item

  • After crafting time is complete, lead crafter will receive the item tag from Crossroads to attach to the appropriate phys rep

Enchanting Lists and Levels

The Enchanting lists themselves are first categorized into what type of item you are making: Accessories, Armor, Instruments, Tools, or Weapons. Please see the subpage Enchanted Item Lists for an overview to the lists. In general, there are no requirements for putting an Enchantment on a specific item of that type, as in any weapon enchantment can go on any weapon. The enchantment itself is more about providing your item of choice an extra ability.

Furthermore, within each Enchanting list the items are categorized into a three level system with each level creating stronger and more potent items than the previous one. These levels are Apprentice Items, Journeyer Items, and Peritus Items.

Unlocked with Tinkerer Ability: (base requirement of 7 resources)

Unlocked with Artisan Ability: (base requirement of 14 resources)

Unlocked with Peritus Enchanter Quest: (base requirement of 21 resources)

Peritus Enchanter Quest: In order to begin this quest, you must meet with The Archwright in game. Once you have successfully completed this quest, you can take the Peritus Ability (2 CP). This ability will give you access to all Journeyer lists you do not know and 1 Peritus list. It will also give you a Tinkering Fatigue attribute of 2.

Arch Peritus Enchanter Quest: In order to begin this quest, you must first have completed the Peritus Quest and have taken the Peritus Enchanter ability. Once you have done that, meet with The Archwright in game. Upon successful completion of the quest, you can take the Arch Peritus Ability (2 CP). This ability gives you access to the remaining Peritus lists that you do not already know.

Enchanting Resources

A list of Enchanting resources can be found under the subpage Enchanting Resources Each resource will give the Enchanted Item properties but there is a special resource that gives the item its magic: An Empyrean Core

All Enchanted Items require the use of an Empyrean Core resource in their construction. These special resources help imbue these items with the magic that makes them different from their normal counterparts.

How to Do the RP for Enchanting: The Workshop

There will be a Workshop set up at the event for you to go perform the roleplay of making your Enchanted Item. There will be phys-reps for you to use but you are also encouraged to bring your own. Please spend the required RP time here crafting your item. Please note, the RP time is not the same as the total crafting time required to make the item.
