Traumatic Wounds are a mechanic in the game that can happen after a character has suffered a large, devastating blow from a monsterous creature. These are wounds which are above and beyond what a normal hit would do to a character.
After a skirmish or battle, a combat marshal may approach you after having witnessed a dramatic scene to ask you if you would be willing to take a Traumatic Wound card. This is an opt-in system for what could possibly be a lengthy roleplay scenario for your character. These Traumatic Wound cards will describe the type of wound you have received from that large hit in battle and what it is doing to you (roleplay wise).
Traumatic Wounds can only be fully healed by a level 3 Medicus with the Chirurgeon ability. However, a level 2 Medicus with the Apothecary ability can negate the negative roleplay effects of a Traumatic Wound with a Poultice.
Note: Traumatic Wounds will not be introduced to the game in the event that we do not have any Player Characters with the Chirurgeon ability.
Traumatic Wound: Blunt Force
This wound can only be healed by a Chirurgeon
Time Limit: 1 hour, after which the damage gets worse (please open the second part of this card and follow the instructions).
Symptoms: Something hit you on the head, hard. You have a splitting headache, your ears are ringing, you’re disoriented, and your vision has gone blurry.
Mechanical Effects: You are afflicted by the Weakened condition. This cannot be cleansed until the wound is treated.
Traumatic wound: Severe Concussion
1 hour after you are wounded: You are Stunned. The headache and blurry vision get progressively worse, until you cannot function at all.
After another hour, you fall unconscious and die of a brain hemorrhage.
The patient is suffering from a severe concussion, and is bleeding inside their brain.
Always remember to get consent before touching another player
TREATMENT
Components: Cleansing Poultice
Time: 5 minutes
Cut open a flap of skin on the patient’s scalp, and then carve out and remove a small circle of bone from their skull. (This is called “trepanning,” and serves to release the blood that is trapped and putting pressure on their brain.)
Use your skills as a Chirurgeon to repair the damage done to the brain. (Whatever you deem as appropriate roleplay for repairing a damaged brain).
Replace the plug of bone and close up the patient’s scalp.
Apply the Cleansing Poultice to the wound to remove the Weakened and/or Stunned condition from the player.
