History

Orkfjarr is a series of islands located in the northwest of Poseia in the Thalhafus Sea. The largest island houses the capital of Mykvin, where the Lawspeaker presides over the Republic’s legal system. The Lawspeaker is elected by the Chieftains of the Republic and serves as the de-facto leader of the islands.

In ancient times, the islands were ruled by various kings and high-kings, and those who were deposed would often venture off to Poseia to establish new kingdoms. The last of these monarchs, Arthod the Cruel, was overthrown in a rebellion, as he tried to impose the Withic on the islands. He and his followers fled westward to found Scyltheld in 274 BF, leaving the Orkfjarric, the last remaining united tribe, alone on the islands.

The Orkfjarric are a ferocious and unyielding people, skilled both with their axes and with their mighty longboats. It is said that when their sails are spotted off the coasts of the once-great kingdoms of Poseia, it is better to flee for the hills than to attempt to face their wrath head-on.

Pillaging and looting are second nature to the Orkfjarric, born of the necessity to survive the harsh, unforgiving winters that grip the fjords, mountains, and volcanoes they call home. Many from these isles take the role professionally are known as Laeguit. The Orkfjarric will stop at nothing to take what they need to survive, even if it means engaging in the vile practice of slavery, taking many captives from their home kingdoms in longboats that can bounce to the top of ice flows.

The Orkfjarric are an insular people, with little interest in the outside world beyond what they can take from it. Their language is an ancient runic tongue known only to their Chieftains, and they have little use for the written word beyond what is necessary to keep records of their pillages and conquests. In Orkfjarr, might makes right, and the strongest always prevail.
