Name: Archmage Valen Arcturus
Race: High-Elf
Age: 110
Archmage Valen Arcturus is the current leader of the Ministry of Inquiry and the highest authority over arcane governance within Llithe. Born among the secluded high elven enclaves that once studied the Mana Plane long before human kingdoms organized its practice, Valen grew up surrounded by ancient theories of magical equilibrium. From an early age he displayed a rare sensitivity to fluctuations in Mana currents, able to perceive subtle distortions within spellwork that other apprentices overlooked entirely. His teachers believed he would one day become a great ritualist or scholar of pure arcane philosophy. Instead, Valen developed a different fascination. He was less interested in creating powerful spells than in understanding why magic failed, destabilized, or corrupted those who used it carelessly. That curiosity eventually drew him away from the quiet elven academies and toward the growing arcane institutions of Reach.
When the Sovereign Arcanum of Reach was still establishing its authority within the capital, Valen arrived as a visiting scholar during the early years of the Era of Harmony. What he found there both impressed and troubled him. The Arcanum possessed extraordinary potential, yet the rapid expansion of magical study meant experimentation often outpaced caution. Valen quickly gained recognition for his work analyzing unstable spellcraft and Mana plane disturbances, publishing several treatises that warned of the long term consequences of unregulated casting. These works reached the crown and eventually the Ministry of Inquiry itself, which at the time struggled to maintain oversight across the expanding arcane landscape of Llithe. Valen was invited to join the Ministry as an advisor. Over decades he helped restructure the licensing system, develop standardized arcane examinations, and implement investigative protocols for tracking illegal or dangerous magical practices.
Now serving as Archmage and head of the Ministry of Inquiry, Valen Arcturus oversees the regulation, study, and protection of Mana throughout the kingdom. From his chambers overlooking the Sovereign Arcanum, he coordinates scholars, investigators, and licensed casters across Llithe, ensuring that magical practice remains disciplined and accountable. Though calm and reserved by nature, Valen has grown increasingly concerned by recent developments. Mana currents have begun behaving unpredictably since the appearance of the Tower of Soddom, producing disturbances even the Ministry struggles to explain. Rather than reacting with fear, Valen has ordered deeper observation of these changes, believing the kingdom stands on the edge of a transformation in the Mana Plane itself. To many he appears an unshakeable pillar of arcane authority, yet those closest to him know the Archmage studies the shifting currents of magic with a quiet urgency. Something within the weave of Llithe is changing, and he intends to understand it before the world does.
